Summary Description:

The Project Director, Anchor Mission Initiatives is responsible for the operational administration and project management of all anchor-related activities and initiatives, including but not limited to inclusive local hiring, supplier diverse and other workforce develop programs that aim to engage external agencies and community-based organizations. Beyond the efforts within Baystate Health this position aims to advance the region's pursuit of specific actions and investments needed to intensify community development intervention in neighborhoods/areas of greatest need and ensure Baystate Health's economic benefits equitably reach individuals from all corners of our region.

The Project Director, Anchor Institution Mission will report dually to DEI & Health Equity and HR to develop strategies that establish Baystate Health as an anchor institution. The incumbent will help Baystate Health develop initiatives and metrics in five anchor institution change levers: local workforce development and hiring, local procurement, local investments, supplier diversity and support of community building. This will require building and maintaining partnerships with Baystate Health departments such as human resources, supply chain/procurement, finance, office of DEI and public health, government/community relations along with external community networks to enhance economic development and promote community health. This position will be expected to emphasize the need to develop even more fully and purposefully our anchor institution agenda that captures much of the scholarly expertise and civic-oriented interests in anchor institution work:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Takes a broad view of organizational assets by assessing the baseline and any existing anchor-like work is already in place; coordinates the development of the Baystate Health anchor strategy and goals in collaboration with business and corporate service leaders.

  • Communicates the organizational imperative and evaluates the risk and opportunity for undertaking specific anchor strategies; articulates how anchor goals will help meet existing BH mission and organizational goals; presents anchor mission strategy to internal stakeholders to gain buy-in.

  • Develops internal infrastructure: coordinates across teams to develop more intentional structure.

  • Coordinates with anchor strategy leaders to build and maintain momentum across teams to keep everyone engaged and on track.

  • Manages daily activities, develop evaluation metrics, and set goals, monitor progress, and report to anchor mission team(s) and develops reports for senior leadership.

  • Represent Baystate Health on local and national collaboratives to increase scalability and impact.

  • Builds relationships with community partners and external agencies to create linkages with community partners to develop a workforce development eco-system for the region.

  • Facilitates the spread of anchor principle to other local employers to enhance community prosperity building across the region.

  • Identify funding needs and develop budget in collaboration with BH business leaders and local philanthropy.

  • Monitor expenses and create progress reports for funders as needed.

  • Work with internal and external communications team members to disseminate anchor mission success stories.

  • Present at local and national conferences to create visibility and opportunities for collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public health, or related field. A master's degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in large scale project management involving community agencies and public policy

Excellent oral and written skills to interact effectively and professionally with residents, community leaders, political leaders, media, students, faculty, and staff. Proficient with computers and the electronic communication environment. Excellent organizational skills, facilitation skills and attention to detail.

Community development experience, community engagement experience; fundraising experience; grant-writing experience, self-motivated; proven ability to work independently and lead a team. Understanding of political policy and the practice of politics in Massachusetts useful.
