Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$101,100.00 - $166,800.00

What Is the Opportunity?

In support of the growing need for continued coaching, mentoring and development in the area of Agile Product Management in the BCO, this role will support the individual & group development of the Agile Product Management discipline through the APM Community of Practice and beyond for other roles supporting agile product management. This position will develop and execute training and coaching forums to address needs/gaps/opportunities to create and grow the agile product management practices throughout Business Insurance. This position is responsible to coach, mentor & support development of our employees. The Project Director is focused on agile product management to optimize product discovery and delivery.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Project Director supports the one-on-one or group coaching & development of the Agile Product Management discipline.

  • The Project Director understands the vision, strategy, business outcomes and products for the supported individuals and teams.

  • The Project Director enables the Product Teams to build the 'right things' with best practices, and tools through coaching & development.

  • The Project Director works with minimal supervision and is responsible for applying advanced product & project management knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to deliverables, processes, and systems in order to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations.

  • The Project Director will enable the advancement of agile product management practices to drive product outcomes that align with the overall business strategy.

Other responsibilities:

Develops and executes training/development to address needs/gaps/opportunities

Develops and executes individual and group coaching

Reinforce agile product management best practices thru application and modeling the way, such as:

Outcomes over Outputs & Product over Project

Focus on solving problems for your customers/users

Building the right products based on validation and evidence using experiments, testing & early feedback practices

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred

  • 7 years of project management experience preferred.

  • 2 years of experience managing others and/or project/product teams preferred.

  • Experience in one or multiple roles on an Agile team, including at least 5 years as a Product Owner/Manager preferred.

  • Experience in facilitation and training preferred.

  • Very active in mentoring and coaching

  • Able to influence behaviors of individuals and leaders at all levels and without traditional hierarchy.

  • Stays current on the Agile product management community and industry trends to inform and influence advancing practices.

  • Strong understanding and ability to articulate business value of Agile product management practices.

  • Experience in facilitation and/or training (coaching a plus)

Experience as Product/Owner & Product Manager on agile product team

What is a Must Have?

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of project management experience required.

VIEW JOBS 12/1/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-03-01T00:00 <p>Position Summary</p><p>Job Summary:</p><p>The Product Owner is the member of the agile team responsible for defining user stories and prioritizing the team backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of features and components for the team. Product owners play a significant role in quality control and is the team member responsible for final user story approval. They are expected to build and maintain significant relationships outside the local team, as well as working with the product manager to prepare for the program increment (PI) planning meeting.</p><p>Customers in the Meeting and Event Services portfolio include National Meeting and Event Services and Deloitte Greenhouse client-focused event management teams. This PO will capture user stories and interact with offshore development teams while delivering world-class applications for our internal customers.</p><p>Illustrative Duties and Responsibilities:</p><ul><li><p>Preparation and Participation in PI Planning: Heavily involved in program backlog refinement and prep for PI planning and participates in the planning event itself. Responsible for updating the team backlog, reviewing features, and contributing to the program vision, roadmap, and content presentations. During the PI Planning session, the PO is involved with story definition, and providing the clarifications necessary to assist the team with their story estimates and sequencing. The PO also drafts the team's specific objectives for the upcoming program increment.</p></li><li><p>Maintaining the Team Backlog: Primary responsibility to work with System Architect/Engineering and other stakeholders for building, editing, and maintaining the team backlog that consists of user stories, defects, and enablers. Responsible for ensuring the backlog items are prioritized based on user value, time, and other team dependencies determined in the PI planning meeting and refined during the PI.</p></li><li><p>Iteration Planning: Responsible for reviewing and prioritizing the backlog as part of the prep work for Iteration Planning, including coordination of dependencies with other POs or Teams. During the iteration planning meeting, the PO is the primary source for story detail and priorities and has the responsibility of accepting the final iteration plan.</p></li><li><p>Story Elaboration: Responsible for elaborating program backlog items (features, enablers) into user stories for implementation. This may happen before the iteration, during iteration planning, or during the iteration. While any team member can write stories and acceptance criteria, the PO has the primary responsibility for maintaining the flow by always having approximately two iterations' worth of stories ready in the team backlog.</p></li><li><p>Supporting Acceptance Test-Driven Development: Participate in the development of story acceptance criteria, draft them when feasible, and provide examples in support of ATDD specification by example.</p></li><li><p>Accepting Stories: Responsible for accepting stories as done, including validation that the story meets acceptance criteria and has the appropriate, persistent acceptance tests, and that it otherwise complies its Definition of Done (DoD). Assures that quality standards are met, focusing primarily on fitness for use.</p></li><li><p>Work with System Architect/Engineering to Understand Enabler Work: Responsible for understanding the scope of the upcoming enabler work and to work with System and Solution Architect/Engineering establish a capacity allocation for technical work, and to assist with decision-making and sequencing of the technological infrastructures that will host the new business functionality.</p></li><li><p>Participate in Demos and Retrospective Meetings: Responsible for reviewing and accepting stories based on the team iteration demo. Participates in the collection and assessment of metrics, including evaluation of business value achieved versus plan, and actively participate in the inspect and adapt workshop.</p></li></ul><p>Decision Making/Judgment Required:</p><ul><li><p>Work with Product Manager on cross-team coordination of use cases for development and test cases for user acceptance testing.</p></li><li><p>Work with offshore teams of BSAs and Pos, delegating work as need across multiple teams.</p></li><li><p>Work with customer teams to ensure project requirements are met, and supporting product and project managers as needed for effective timeline and scope management.</p></li><li><p>Contribute to vision and program backlog. Makes recommendations regarding the team backlog and implementation.</p></li><li><p>Participates in defining the iterations and stories. Accepts iteration increments.</p></li><li><p>Assists in driving iteration goals and iteration content via prioritized stories.</p></li><li><p>Establishes story acceptance criteria, accepts stories into the baseline.</p></li><li><p>Coordinate dependencies with other team's POs when needed.</p></li><li><p>Participate in producing the System Demo for program stakeholders.</p></li><li><p>Work across Agile Teams to define and implement improvement stories that will increase the velocity and quality of the program.</p></li><li><p>Works with the UX designers to deliver user-friendly product solutions.</p></li><li><p>Works closely with the Product Manager and Application Architect, and have a collective/team accountability for success and quality of the solution</p></li></ul><p>Required Technical Skills:</p><ul><li><p>Proficiency working within IT supporting Agile/Scrum environments</p></li><li><p>4+ years of directly related experience including subject matter expertise in applicable area</p></li><li><p>Experience creating user stories and managing workflows with Jira, TFS/ADO, or comparable tool</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of software development lifecycles including Agile development and testing.</p></li><li><p>Excellent written and verbal communications, organization, analytical, planning, and notable leadership skills.</p></li><li><p>Strong communication, technical and remote collaboration skills.</p></li><li><p>Excellent team collaboration skills, to include experience in dealing with multiple projects and multi-functional teams, and ability to coordinate across teams in a large matrix organization environment.</p></li><li><p>Ability to effectively conduct technical discussions directly with Project/Product management.</p></li><li><p>Strong relationship building and maintaining skills. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
