PRIMARY PURPOSE: The successful candidate will be responsible for scoping, preliminary designs and estimating of capital expansion projects $5mm and up.
Estimates will be conceptual to detailed funding quality. Position will work directly with the Commercial, Engineering , and Operations groups to define capital project scopes of work, gather specific project details and design information and assemble into packages. Candidates should have sound Engineering capabilities with basic understanding of the project design and execution process.
Prior estimating experience expected with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Win Estimator is the preferred estimating software, but experience with any computer based program will be considered. Liquids and Bulk Terminals type experience is a plus This position will office at our new Pasadena office (Beltway 8 and Hwy 225). Typical deliverables are:
Perform basic Engineering, layout sketch, process flow diagram (PFD), sketch isometric pipe drawings, equipment list, write up of the Basis of Design, obtain quotations for major components, high level schedule, summary of permitting requirements, definition of civil, electrical and instrumentation requirements. Some projects will require in depth studies of operating parameters and equipment options. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to scope projects based on previous experience and develop conceptual designs and estimates for new projects. Read and comprehend PFD's, P&ID's technical drawings and specifications. Prepare material take-offs, create detailed estimates and preliminary sketches for proposed capital projects for review with internal customers and management.
Document the Design Basis for each project. Confirm actual field conditions. Oversight and management of 3rd party Engineering assistance. Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred).EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
A minimum of 5-7 years direct capital estimating experience 7-10 years working in the terminals or petrochemical industry Detailed working knowledge of mechanical and civil construction. Experience in pipe sizing, pumps, and valve types COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Availability to travel throughout the US and Canada, and other locations as required in performing job duties.
Estimated 5% travel required. Must be willing and able to carry a cell phone and to respond when contacted. Ideal candidate has the ability to grow into the next level positions in the future.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION: Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers Must complete all Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations Must obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed
