Your Opportunity

As a Marine Environmental Advisor, you will assist in the management of the marine environmental scopes associated with a construction project and function as a key member of a marine team. You will work in a fast-paced environment with dynamic conditions providing technical support to project managers.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Report to a marine environmental lead and support environmental compliance

  • Assist in the coordination and oversight of a variety of environmental monitoring programs

  • Review construction readiness for and provide technical support during construction

  • Manage a complex reporting framework, providing technical review where appropriate

  • Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, in accordance with project specific plans and guidelines

  • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively with a small project team

  • Ability to work within a larger project team and liaise with multiple departments and contractors

  • Self-motivated, has excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills

  • Construction background and familiarity with BC Regulatory Framework is an asset

  • Experience with multiple disciplines such as stormwater management, sediment and erosion control, contaminated sites, excavation, spill response, incident management

  • Able to make on-site environmental technical decisions

  • Class 5 valid BC Drivers' License and good driving record

  • Level 1 First Aid is an asset

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or Biology is required.

Qualified Professional required (R.P.Bio or equivalent) and specialization in marine water quality preferred.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an environmental scientist, with experience in marine construction.

Candidate will have the ability to travel and work in remote location and the willingness to work 10-12 hours per day on rotating shifts. Typical office environment working with computers and attending meetings, interacting with project staff and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Sporadic field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Your Opportunity We currently have an opening for one Junior Environmental Planner and Project Coordinator Co-op student in our Burnaby or Sidney, BC offices. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the following teams: Socio-economic Development and Aboriginal Consultation, and Project Management. Your Key Responsibilities * Fulfilling health and safety requirements * Participating in natural resource management, planning and Aboriginal consultation projects * Data entry/management and technical report writing * Project coordination * Financial project controls * Supporting environmental assessments and federal, provincial and municipal permitting * Providing logistical support for reporting and field work * Technical training opportunities Your Capabilities and Credentials The successful candidate will have the following skills: adaptability, good organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, attention to detail, and multitasking. A valid driver's license is preferred. Additional skills such as an understanding of First Nations and natural resource management issues, project coordination and financial controls, the environmental assessment and permitting process federally, provincially or municipally are assets, but are not required. Education and Experience The successful candidate must (at minimum) be enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of a University Co-op degree program in Environmental Science or Technology, Environmental Planning or a related discipline. Recent graduates of these university programs are also invited to apply. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
