The Project Coordinator for the 4S Pathways to Academic Student Success oversees a case load of undergraduate students who are academically or economically disadvantaged. The Project Coordinator provides comprehensive support for student academic performance, personal and professional goals, and timely completion of their degree. Working with the Director, the Project Coordinator assists with the day-to-day operations of the three grant funded projects (4S Pathways, GEAR UP, College Day) to meet all required objectives. The role also provides oversight, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of programming for students participating in 4S Pathways to Academic Success. The Project Coordinator serves as a liaison to campus and community partners especially academic advising, academic resources, orientation, scholarships and financial aid. This position requires a level of prioritization and independence to respond to requests from the Director, university personnel, community partners, students, and supporters within defined grant guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Two years of professional experience in areas related to youth programs, underrepresented populations, non-profit or educational work or similar fields.

Experience working with college students in a one-on-one academic coaching environment.

Strong program development, planning and event management skills.

Experience with or knowledge of higher education academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize needs independently without supervision

Ability to manage confidential information.

Ability to effectively communicate and maintain effective working relationships with participants, supporters, program staff, campus partners, and community partners.

Demonstrated experience working with academically or economically disadvantaged populations historically underrepresented in higher education.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Evidence of skills and ability to learn and utilize technology.

Demonstrated problem solving skills.

Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and proof of current automobile insurance coverage.

Ability to perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in related field.

Prior experience working with individuals in a case management model.

Experience in dealing with the public in presenting information on university policies and procedures.

Experience in academic coaching and support resources, advising/coaching college students, teaching, tutoring, and understanding of higher education administration.

Knowledge of higher education administration and degree requirements; university catalog and academic policies, and procedures.

Knowledge of post-secondary admissions, scholarship, and financial aid process.

Knowledge of assessment, data and record keeping requirements.

Ability to plan, organize and implement major recruitment programs, and communication plans. Experience with development of outreach campaigns.

Experience managing budgets and writing grants.

Duties & Responsibilities

Daily oversight of 4S Pathways to Academic Success and all its activities.

Serves as case manager for 4S Pathways scholars. This includes providing support, guidance and advocacy in support of student progression, retention, and graduation (academic achievement, financial wellness, career readiness, emotional wellness, and campus connection).

Monitors academic progression and alerts to provide direct outreach to students experiencing academic difficulty.

Serves as a liaison for 4S Pathways scholars on a broad range of advising activities from preparation of program to a review of available course offerings. Assists with schedule planning.

Serves as an instructor/facilitator of freshman seminars and workshops for students in support of learning culture that focuses on student achievement and success.

Assists with the coordination, supervision, communication, training and evaluation of 4S Pathways student staff.

Develops and delivers presentations, workshops, and other activities on navigating postsecondary education (i.e., financial aid, registration, academic resources, etc.).

Develops, delivers, maintains program partnerships and suggests new opportunities for 4S Pathways scholars to build community within the program and the campus.

Assists in the development of outreach efforts including written communication, flyers, and newsletters, and manages social media to disseminate program information/services to key stakeholders (i.e., students, families, and partners, etc.).

Assists with CMU orientation and collaborates on the recruitment and selection of participants.

Supports CMU's GEAR UP Program including attending and facilitating CMU GEAR UP fields trips, college visits, and summer camp as assigned by the director.

Facilitates College Positive Volunteer Training. Coordinates CPVs for college panels, college visits, and all CMU GEAR UP events.

Participates in program/organizational/departmental planning sessions, trainings, and staff meetings.

Assists with the completion and submission of all program participation and evaluation reports, including those required by the State of Michigan as per grant policies. Includes the entry of participant data into quired databases and ensures all provided services and activities are properly documented.

Assists with event management details and logistics for various programs and projects.

Executes work with professional conduct, good judgement and maintains the confidentiality and accuracy of participant/student records.

Reviews monthly reconciliations for accuracy and compliance with the grant goals, regulations, and performance objectives and assists in developing the budget for program events and activities.

Attend relevant professional development conferences, meetings, trainings workshops and seminars as needed and assigned by the Director.

May work evenings and/or weekends as required.
