The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City clean, safe, and healthy by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning streets, attacking the scourge of illegal dumping, and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2,000 rear-loading collection trucks, 450 mechanical brooms, 705 salt spreaders, and several dozen bike lane operations machines. Under the Adams Administration, the Department is aggressively cleaning more parts of the City than ever before, including over 1,000 long-ignored areas spread across every neighborhood. With the highest wintertime uniformed headcount in 20 years, DSNY is more equipped than ever to remove snow and ice from the approximately 19,000 lane-miles of City streets.

DSNY is seeking a Project Coordinator to join the Bureau of Public Affairs (BPA), Project Management unit. DSNY has several major new strategic initiatives that this candidate will be heavily involved with. Reporting to Senior Management, under general direction, The Project Coordinator role may include but is not limited to:

  • Planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and/or evaluation of the production of print and promotional products supporting our programs.

  • Managing ongoing internal and external communication for bureau projects related but not limited to print/production, promotional materials and costume requests and social media advertising.

  • Facilitating and tracks the production/approval process between graphic designers, program managers and agency leaders.

  • Liaising between agency and contract vendors to create and maintain production timelines and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Providing technical assistance and training to staff in techniques of production implementation and project management. Makes recommendations on policies and procedures to improve efficiency.

  • Handling certain aspects of correspondence and customer service, professionally and responsibly via email and/or phone calls.

Minimum Qualifications

1.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2.High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3.Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and writing skills. Attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in-person, by telephone, and through written correspondence.

  • Team-player who can also work independently.

  • Project management experience in a design-related field.

  • Strong working knowledge of database applications, including MS Office Suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications and print production processes

  • In addition to English, fluency in a foreign language is preferred.

  • Possession of a New York State Motor Vehicle Driver's License. Candidate must be highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong interpersonal and project management skills, flexibility, and willingness to learn and stay updated on print production technologies. Must be able to manage multiple projects efficiently and effectively with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets, and database applications, including MS Office Suite, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
