GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The mission of the MGH Center for Community Health Improvement (CCHI) is to collaborate with underserved communities to improve health. CCHI carries out this mission by working to reduce substance abuse and violence in Chelsea, Revere and Charlestown, increase access to care for vulnerable populations, eliminate racial and ethnic disparities for all MGH patients and provide opportunities for students living in Boston and most recently - Chelsea and Revere.
Reporting to the Sr. Program Manager-Youth Programs, the Program Coordinator will assertively and deftly lead and manage program-based initiatives for the MGH Science Fair Mentor Program which serves students in middle school, grades 7-8 and the Youth Scholars Program, which serves high school students in grades 9-12. In this role, the Program Coordinator cultivates school and community partnerships to ensure the overall quality of the programs, program sustainability and partner, student and volunteer satisfaction. Additionally, the Program Manager coordinates interdepartmental resources that will also aid in the achievement of annual programmatic goals. Works with the Youth Programs team to create pipeline opportunities for elementary and middle school students to stay connected with MGH through high school and college.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRIMARY PARTNERSHIP LIAISON FOR PROGRAMS THAT FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS:
MGH/Timilty Science Fair Mentor Program (60% OF OVERALL DUTIES)
Cultivates superior professional relationships with all site contacts of school and
community partnerships for the MGH Science Fair Mentor Program through
personal interactions, verbal and written communications and meetings.
Manages all aspects of program planning and the coordination of resources to
ensure the successful implementation and execution of services, acting in a
liaison capacity to school partner and volunteers from the MGH community.
Strives to ensure that the annual goals of the Science Fair Mentor Program are
Recruits Science Fair Mentors and Judges for the school-wide Science Fair.
Coordinates events for the Science Fair Mentor Program, this includes
coordinating with the school partners for the annual Science Fair event at the
Timilty School, mentor workshops and the year-end celebration event.
Oversees the 8th graders summer internship application process, coordinates
with Human Resources for their onboarding and will be the dedicated point of
contact for students and supervisors for the Summer Jobs Program that are
Works in collaboration with the CCHI Evaluation Team to identify program strengths and areas for opportunity. Uses data to continually work to improve/enhance the experience and outcomes to partners and student participants.
YOUTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM (40% OF OVERALL DUTIES)
Assists with projects during the academic year, as time allows and as
identified by the Sr. Program Manager of Curriculum & Learning, (ex.
Promoting enrichment opportunities with scholars (National Student
Leadership Conference applications and summer speaker series, retreat
planning, and assisting with 9th-12th grade programming)
2-5 years of progressive responsibility in project management, event planning, human resources, client service/support or account management
Demonstrated experience and success in not-for-profit, hospital, academic or human service
Industry preferred or as successfully completed an AmeriCorps service program(s)
