Emerson Automation Solutions is actively seeking a candidate to fill a Project Controls Specialist position. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for Project Managers and Senior Project Managers pertaining to all things related to project controls.
The responsibilities for this position include actively participating in and coordinating scheduling and cost control activities and handling complex and varied assignments requiring moderate knowledge of cost control and scheduling as well as interfacing with procurement and document controls disciplines. Individuals should be able to resolve complex problems using independent judgment and exhibit the ability to coordinate and lead the implementation of project controls in cost control and scheduling. Expectation is ownership and leadership of activities requiring a moderate level of support from senior personnel.
The Project Controls Specialist is a key member of a diverse team of professionals executing medium sized process automation projects with moderate complexity and risk. Multiple small to moderate sized projects in refining, petrochemical and related industries will be assigned.
Some travel will be required for internal team collaboration, customer meetings, two-tiered interactive scheduling activities, etc. The Project Controls Specialist will also assist the Project Manager in assuring that the execution proficiency adheres to Emerson's Project Management Office processes.
As Project Controls Specialist, you will be accountable for monitoring, analyzing, forecasting and reconciling all schedule and cost/revenue elements on automation projects including changes in scope, impacts of schedule deviations, etc., with total project capital generally in $1M - $5M size.

You will analyze project transactions, revenue and costs variances, project margin fluctuations, and generate project controls reports for customers and internal team members during the project execution life cycle. You will track, analyze, and report on original project budgeted costs, expenditures, estimated final costs, margins, and current cost/revenue forecasts. You will work closely with lead engineers and project managers collaboratively on schedule development, development of execution strategies, monitoring of achievement of objectives, workforce loading and forecasting the impact of scope and schedule variances.
You will ensure proper progress tracking and change management systems are followed and functioning during the project lifecycle, and that change impacts are captured following Emerson's change management processes. You will assist the Project Manager in preparation of schedules, and in the use of spreadsheets to perform cost analyses, cash flows, estimates to complete, work in progress, estimates at completion and various other cost related evaluations for project monitoring and controlling. In preparation for customer reporting and periodic project reviews with Emerson management, you will evaluate proposed and/or anticipated scope deviations, and report on the status of the project financials and project schedule.
This non-exempt position is located in St. Louis. There is no relocation assistance available.
Candidates must possess the following: Associate's Degree in a related engineering or technical or financial management field and 5 years experience or a Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering or technical or financial management field and 3 years experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM). Previous experience in the scheduling of engineering services in Microsoft Project or Primavera.
Working knowledge of engineering, procurement, accounting, cost/revenue forecasting, and industrial practices, a working knowledge of Project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and cost/schedule integration, proficiency with Microsoft suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, Visio).
Candidates shall have demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment exhibiting strong analytical skills and the ability to remain flexible to manage changing project issues that always occur, have strong organizational and analysis skills to review data and come to clear and reasonable conclusions, and possess superior verbal, presentation and written communication skills.
Candidates should be able to carry out responsible and varied assignments requiring general familiarity with the field of specialty.
Experience in working on projects for both end users and Engineer/Procure/Process Automation fields and having a working knowledge of Refining and/or Petrochemical processes a plus.
