Job Description:Summary:

The Student Project Controls Engineer Assistant will support the Project Controls department in developing, tracking and generating reports on project performance data. This position will support all aspects of project controls and reporting, including, project change management, cost control, progress measurement, schedule development and schedule control.

  • Assist with developing, implementing and maintaining a cost management reporting data warehouse to produce valuable program controls reports and data.

  • Perform project planning and scheduling tasks.

  • Coordinate project schedules and assist with the development of scheduling reports.

  • Coordinate project set-up in the Enterprise Planning & Controls software.

  • Review data; maintain logs; and run reports in the Enterprise Planning & Controls software or other tools.

  • Validate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

  • Perform budget tracking against Purchase Orders or Subcontracts.

  • Assist with upstream (prime contract) / downstream (PO & subcontract) change orders.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Access and Power BI products required.

  • Preferred candidates would be pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering, business, construction management or related field.

The Control Systems Group at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Staff Control System Engineer. The Control Systems Group is part of the Autonomous and Intelligent Systems Department and supports the UTRC mission by developing and transitioning algorithms and techniques in control system architecture design, estimation, system identification, control design and verification for components and complex integrated systems of relevance to UTC, and by bringing innovative, emerging, and disruptive technologies in control and related areas into UTC for use in its products. UTRC provides our UTC business unit partners and external customers with world-class estimation, system identification, and advanced control systems solutions. The primary responsibilities of the Staff Control System Engineer will be to lead research, development, application, and transition of algorithms for estimation, system identification, and advanced controls in the context of the UTC business units, including Pratt and Whitney and Collins Aerospace Systems. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead small teams as well as the ability to advocate successfully for external and internal funding for innovative technical projects, and have excellent written and spoken communications skills. Prospective candidates should have primary expertise in advanced control system analysis, development, and design as well as in methods for estimation and system identification with a combination of skills in multiple of the following: mechanical engineering, electronics, computer engineering, aerospace engineering and systems engineering. Experience with standard modeling and control development software such as Matlab/Simulink is a must, while experience with Python, C/C++ and Modelica is a plus. Some application experience is desirable. Education/Certifications Ph.D. in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering with at least five years of relevant experience in an industrial, academic, government, or national laboratory setting. Must have specialized in the fields of system dynamics, optimization, control systems, or preferably some combination. Experience/Qualifications The candidate must be able to effectively lead multi-disciplinary teams focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading worldwide institutions to fulfill organizational objectives. The candidate is expected to work effectively to develop original technical projects to support the UTRC program offices and UTC business units and in support of appropriate government funding agencies to enhance existing programs. Participation in industry/university partnerships is expected. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate must have a proven track record of technical accomplishments in the stated areas and is expected to have published in optimization or control system conferences or journals.
