Department Summary
They will serve as Director of Partnerships and Advancement of CDLS to assist the Faculty Director and Leadership Team in carrying out CDLS' mission by advancing the coordination, implementation, administration, growth, and management of CDLS partnerships. The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) defines advancement as a strategic, integrated method of managing relationships to increase understanding and support among an educational institution's key constituents, including alumni and friends, government policy makers, the media, members of the community and philanthropic entities of all types.
Reporting to the Faculty Director, the Director for Partnerships and Advancement will lead advancement efforts to develop collaboration opportunities and partnerships for the Center. Primary responsibilities include developing strategic advancement strategies, (including communications, funds identification and securement, alumni engagement, and policy influence) to enhance visibility and impact of CDLS research, assessment, equity, and inclusion efforts; contributing to strategic planning for CDLS through advancement; consulting with CDLS staff, postdocs, lab assistants, members, and volunteers in their activities relevant to external engagement; managing day-to-day operations of the center related to advancement, partnerships and collaborations; and developing strategies to increase partners' cultural competencies for the sustainment of equitable and inclusive opportunities in the environment and environmental science. This work will include engaging faculty, researchers, staff, students and community partners; working to create a development and growth plan for the Center; liaising with the operations committee, board, administration, and partners. The incumbent will act as a professional and friendly public relations representative with affiliated organizations, at public events and meetings, and will make public presentations at program related.

The UCLA Center for Diverse Leadership in Science (CDLS) seeks an energetic, thoughtful, self-motivated, creative and resourceful, ambitious, organized, highly-skilled, and flexible professional with evidence of cultural competencies and a passionate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental science. They should have university advancement leadership experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and have engagement experience with students, staff, faculty, academic leaders, corporate leaders, community leaders, foundations, and government agencies committed to or with the potential to commit to equity and inclusion for underserved communities. They will serve as Director of Partnerships and Advancement of CDLS to assist the Faculty Director and Leadership Team in carrying out CDLS' mission by advancing the coordination, implementation, administration, growth, and management of CDLS partnerships.

Qualifications
8-10 years Experience in integrated strategic communication of diversity and inclusion, climate change and sustainability, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required) 8-10 years Past experience with advancement, collaborations, and partnerships work (Required) 8-10 years Past leadership experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or business settings. (Required) 8-10 years Strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for science. (Required) 8-10 years Experience with geoscience and environment science and education research. (Required) 8-10 years Experience with mentoring. (Required) 8-10 years Demonstrated proficiency in English language usage and superior oral and written communication skills. (Required) 8-10 years Experience in planning meetings and events. (Preferred) Ability to implement an entrepreneurial approach to strategy and tasks - equally adept at working alone, in small working groups, and effectively across a distributed, virtual team by establishing and (Required) Proficiency in personal computing and software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
PhD Degree in environmental science, education, policy, or political science or a related field of study, or equivalent experience/training (Preferred) Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Preferred)
