Our Project Accountant:

  • Maintains projects in Oracle according to the company policies and procedures

  • Reviews contract terms and associated information to ensure project setup generates appropriate results

  • Issues and reviews client invoices to ensure they are in accordance with the contract terms

  • Performs monthly reconciliations of billed/unbilled vs. revenue, researches and resolves unexplained reconciling items

  • Monitors project balances on Accounts Receivable, Work in Progress and Billing in Excess accounts

  • Analyzes and verifies internal consistency, completeness and accuracy of project data, revenue and cost budgets/forecasts

  • Provides month-end reporting on project performance including gross margin variances

  • Prepares ad hoc journal entries and analyzes specific cost or project account ledgers

  • Applies best practices and company policies throughout all phases of a project

  • Contacts other departments and outside vendors, suppliers and clients to resolve cross functional pending items

  • Provides work leadership for Junior Project Accountants

  • Meets weekly, monthly and quarterly deadlines as outlined in company policies and best practices

  • Participates in internal and external audit

  • Prepares retroactive rate adjustments based on provisional billing rates

  • Performs detailed GL analysis and prepares final invoices for federal projects

  • Degree in Finance or Accounting, is desired but not required

  • At least 2 years of professional accounting experience

  • Working knowledge of ERP system, preferably Oracle

  • Familiarity with the government contract compliance regulations found in the FAR, CAS is required

  • Detailed orientated with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good time management and organizational skills with ability to manage various deadlines and client requirements

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

This position reports to the Director of Finance (Business Officer-Advanced) and is responsible for the accounting and budgeting functions of the clinical enterprise within the School of Dental Medicine. The clinical enterprise is composed of five clinical operations within Ross Hall (Student Clinic, Pediatric/Orthodontic Clinic, Advanced Care Clinic, Faculty Practice, and the Clinical Research Center). The General Practice Residency Clinic (GPR) is hospital based and located at Vidant Medical Center. Finally, eight Community Service Learning Centers (CSLC) are operational and are located across the State of NC. The Clinical Accounting Director will be responsible for managing insurance and billing, collection of clinic revenues, and contract services for the clinic operations. The Clinical Accounting Director supervises three Accounting Tech positions and one Univ Program Associate and oversees their functions including, but not limited to patient account adjustments, patient refunds, insurance claim filing, patient billing, and patient complaints as it relates to finances, billing, and insurance. Professional Knowledge: This position will be trained as a superuser of axiUm, the School's Dental Management Software system in order to assist clinics and the CSLC Business Managers and Faculty Directors with questions and issues related to financial transactions, billing, and insurance. This position will facilitate day-to-day operations of the clinics and CSLCs. He/She will need to develop policies and procedures to insure appropriate internal controls of all clinical billings and collections. In addition, this position will be responsible for insuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor patient billings and collections, reconciliation of cash accounts, and appropriate designation of expenditures to meet generally accepted accounting principles and the application to cost, governmental accounting, and non-governmental accounting. This will require knowledge of axiUm and Banner, the University's accounting system of record. This position will be responsible to train front-end clinical staff on cash management, in-take processes, insurance processes, and checking out patients to ensure business operations are optimal for receipt of patient revenue. This position will be responsible for monitoring clinical reports for Ross Hall, GPR, and the CSLCs, and providing input in the enhancement of these reports. Financial Monitoring & Analysis: This position will monitor and reconcile patient clearing funds and Set Off Debt (SODCA) collection activity between axiUm and Banner on a monthly basis. This position will monitor and analyze clinical revenues to determine the appropriate distribution of payer mixes and fee schedules. Staffing request will be evaluated on increased clinical activity and maximum utilization of existing staff. Clinical schedules will be evaluated in respect to patient needs and demands. This position will work with ECU Internal Audit and the Office of Institutional Integrity to identify errors, questionable charges, anomalies, or non-billable scenarios, which may require refunds to patients and/or government or private insurances.
