The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County's most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

OCDE's Business Services Division delivers services to support the educational programs of Orange County school districts, partnering agencies, and the business community it serves. The division strives to improve efficiency and implement business solutions with a high level of customer service and professionalism, while fostering a collaborative work environment.

The Business Services Division is looking for an experienced individual to serve as a Project Accountant to perform a variety of duties such as: reconciliations, auditing, implementation, fund accounting, record keeping, and monitoring to ensure compliance. The Project Accountant also maintains general ledger balances for all school districts within Orange County, researches any discrepancies, develops and maintains spreadsheets and databases, and assists districts in closing financial books at the end of the fiscal year. Additionally, the individual acts as a liaison between OCDE and federal, state, and local agencies. This recruitment will fill the current vacancy and establish an eligibility list for future openings.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Associate's degree in accounting or a related field. • Four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, one of which involved project or grant fund accounting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a public agency or educational institution is preferred.
