The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Programmer will perform programming tasks to assist in data cleaning, QA/QC, integration, and production for several CIESIN projects. The programmer will develop and maintain geospatial data services, tools, and applications, with a primary focus on cloud-based services. The programmer will implement program modules and scripts to automate the maintenance of data processing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support with the synthesis and integration of big geospatial data from various data sources around the world. Develop scripts to automate the process.
  • Assist with the big geospatial data development and production. Develop Python notebooks and code modules using state-of-the-art data science techniques such as AI / GeoAI / ML.
  • Develop scripts to automate the gridding process for converting vector and tabular data sets into raster format to aid the integration of socioeconomic data with earth science data.
  • Aid with the data analysis and QA/QC process for diverse multi-disciplinary data sets. Develop scripts and program modules to aid the process.
  • Assist with development and publishing of geospatial data services in the cloud. Develop scripts to optimize the data models and formats for the cloud-based services.
  • Support the development and maintenance of geospatial data visualization and analysis tools and applications in the cloud.
  • Assist with implementation of program modules and scripts to automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of high-end geospatial data processing servers and applications software, open source and commercial. This includes implementation of Notebook servers and similar tools for collaborative data development.
  • Automate the maintenance of data processing workstations.
  • Develop scripts and configure centralized management software to install, configure, and maintain workstations running GIS software.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with GIS, Remote Sensing, and Spatial Analysis Tools.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based geospatial services and tools development.
  • Experience in data cleaning, quality checking, and integration.
  • Experience with scripting, data analysis techniques, and automation.
  • Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Must be able to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong motivation and communication skills are required.
