Program Underwriter

Overview

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Program Account Underwriter that will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and pricing new and renewal business based on company standards, the Program Agreement, and within granted underwriting authority. As a Senior Program Account Underwriter, you will underwrite and work on multiple lines of business including Businessowners' Policies, Commercial Auto, Commercial Package Policies, and Professional Liability, among others. You will work closely with both the internal Underwriting team as well as external Program Administrators/MGAs and agents.

Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and pricing new and renewal business based on company standards, the Program Agreement, and within granted underwriting authority. As a Program Account Underwriter, you will underwrite and work on multiple lines of business including Businessowners' Policies, Commercial Auto, Commercial Package Policies, and Professional Liability, among others.

• You will work closely with both the internal Underwriting team as well as external Program Administrators/MGAs.

• Assist with Underwriting Guidelines and alignment with established and evolving Guard guidelines.

• You will coordinate and participate in Program Audits and produce audit reports (about 12 per year), which includes some travel.

• You will Facilitate meetings with internal and external participants and assist with demographics and ad hoc portfolio management projects and analysis.

Qualifications

• Up to 5 years of Commercial P&C underwriting experience - Property, General Liability and Commercial Auto a must

• The ability to work as a team player

• Strong oral and writing skills

• Strong technical skills such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms

• Ability to effectively manage a full workload while exhibiting good judgment

• Ability to effectively communicate externally and internally. Externally with experienced program managers and senior underwriters, internally with the Product Leads, Accounting, Claims, Actuarial, IT, etc.

• Assist with demographics and ad hoc portfolio management projects and analysis

• Willingness to travel to assigned Program Administrator locations

• Assist on program audits and audit reports

• In addition, Commercial Package, Professional Liability, and Surplus lines underwriting experience would be a plus
