This position is located in the Unites States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Crop Genetics Research Unit, located in Stoneville, MS.

The incumbent of these positions serves as a personal assistant to the Research Leader (RL) and other professional staff, coordinating a range of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the Management Unit.

Responsibilities

Major Duties may include, but are not limited to :

  • Serving as principal timekeeper for a management unit.

  • Advising unit personnel on travel allowances and requirements, and ensuring adherence to travel regulations.

  • Establishing, maintaining, and revising office filing systems and tracking logs.

  • Editing materials for correct structure, clarity, and formatting arrangement for annual reports, internal newsletters, and formal correspondence.

  • Screening incoming calls and visitors and answering questions regarding established policies or routine matters.

  • Using a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, and database software packages (e.g., Excel) to produce tables and charts for program management and administrative use.

Occasional travel - Position may require occasional travel for training purposes.

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience as identified by grade level.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:

At the GS-06:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which has equipped the candidate with the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes preparing and tracking budgeting and accounting forms; maintaining detailed records of purchases necessary for an office environment; and assisting in coordinating aspects of travel for staff and supervisors.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, applicants must possess a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.

VIEW JOBS 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-09T00:00 DELTA HEALTH ALLIANCE Facilities Maintenance/Driver Assistant Reporting to the Asst VP & Administration, the Facilities Maintenance/Driver Assistant position is responsible for working under the Facilities Maintenance Lead position performing the general maintenance and upkeep of the DHA administrative offices, Scholars-In-Residence cottages, IPC offices, and Daycares grounds and equipment. This position will also be available to the Leland Medical Clinic to drive the mobile unit weekly. The work will consist of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems for repair and maintenance tasks as necessary. Also will work with custodial staff assisting with routine and daily custodial tasks as needed. The Facilities Maintenance/Driver Assistant position will be responsible for general repairs such as replacing light bulbs, performing simple repairs, spot painting, patching walls, buffing floors, maintaining exterior and grounds of office complex, cabins and daycares. This will involve travel on some days. In addition to maintenance this position will help maintain a clean environment of all facilities while working with the custodial staff when needed and drive the LMC mobile unit. Minimum qualifications for this position include 5 years of experience in this field with responsibility for an office environment; would include the ability to recognize electrical, plumbing, and mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (moving items over 50 pounds requires a team lift). Must have an understanding and ability to clean and perform basic custodial task. Must possess current, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good record. A. Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, organizing and innovation. B. Complete minor repair jobs & upgrade projects in the assigned buildings & daycares. C. Shared custodial responsibilities of all Stoneville/IPC facilities when needed. D. Attend to emergencies when necessary. E. Will travel to daycares in the area for occasional deliveries, maintenance and repairs weekly. F. Seasonal deep cleaning and maintenance of building interior and exterior (i.e. Floor waxing, carpet cleaning, pressure wash building). G. Perform routine inspections and regular up keep of interior and exterior areas at daycares to ensure areas are free of safety hazards, trash, weeds and other foreign materials. H. Perform occasional upkeep of outside areas, including lawns, landscaped beds, play grounds and parking lots, to include weeding, trash and litter removal required to keep areas clean, neat and safe. I. Assist with moving office and classroom furniture, fixtures and equipment to support increasing staffing changes, relocations, remodels and program expansion. J. Miscellaneous minor maintenance; (i.e. changing filters, unclog toilets, daylight bulbs etc) K. Drive the mobile unit for LMC. L.
