Duties

The core duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as the point of contact for initial inquiries regarding policies, procedures, standards; lodging eligibility; referral processes; staff volunteer opportunities; responsible for monetary and offer of in-kind donations.

  • Conducts orientation and ensures all Fisher House standards and house rules are followed.

  • Serves with full program authority in the absence of the Fisher House Manager including supervision of staff and volunteers.

  • Receives and addresses guest complaints using tact and diplomacy. Enforces compliance of program expectations, including the removal of the guest.

  • Complies with health, safety, privacy, sanitation rules and regulations. Will assist with monitoring cleanliness and safety of the communal living areas and guest rooms as needed.

  • Assists in the preparation and tracking of work orders relative to repair and maintenance issues.

  • Plans and develops controls and procedures regarding acceptance of donation and gifts.

  • Assists in the development and update of informational bulletins, brochures, and resident packets.

  • Ensures funds are protected and accounted.

  • Implements Fisher House Manager's new procedures, regulations and guidelines concerning

operations.

  • Establishes and maintains various automated databases on program operations such as occupancy, referral sources, average length of stay, guest demographics, etc.

  • Assembles facts, evaluates information, and drafts reports and correspondence for Top Management and Central Office.

  • Responsible for staff support to ensure effective planning, operation, and evaluation of an active well-balanced Voluntary/Community Relations Program.

  • Authorized to terminate volunteers who fail to follow established procedures.

  • Has the latitude to reassign volunteers as required and to counsel them concerning violation of rules and regulations.

  • Available to give lectures and presentations to the community as well as organizes tours of the Fisher House to interested community partners and other agencies on the Fisher House mission.

  • Develops information and communication for use on multiple platforms within and outside of VA Lexington Health Care System, including electronic, print, and graphic design content to support the electronic Fisher House newsletter and the Fisher House website.

  • Prepares a monthly house calendar, weekly house bulletins and promotional materials for events within the house for guests staying at Fisher House.

  • Uses specific digital and social media platforms including writing, editing and graphic design relevant to

support a broad base of initiatives, program launches, issues, and efforts to support the broadest methods of communications with the widest audience possible.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/17/2024.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Applicants must possess the following specialized experience to meet the minimum qualifications for this position:

  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as:

  • Developing, establishing, and implementing operational policies.

  • Providing orientation, lectures, and presentations.

  • Scheduling appointments.

  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, privacy, and sanitation rules/regulations.

  • Entering, tracking, and retrieving data.

  • Evaluating program's effectiveness and recommending changes for improvement.

  • Verifying & electronically posting time and attendance records.

  • Maintaining, coordinating, and management of funds.

  • Serving as the purchase order clerk for the submission of purchase orders, requests for turn-in receipts, and management of all equipment and supplies.

  • Assisting in the preparation and tracking of work orders relative to repair and maintenance issues.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is minimally sedentary. Frequent walking, climbing stairs, standing, carrying household items and files and driving an automobile to and from project sites are required. No special physical demands are involved.
