BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of a higher level manager or director, plan, organize and direct one or more complex and varied public health programs or clinics within the Department of Public Health including supervision of Licensed Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurses or Public Health Nurses; supervise assigned support staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Program Supervisor I - Public Health Nursing directs an assigned public health program or site. Incumbents typically direct professional, paraprofessional and clerical personnel including Licensed Vocational Nurses, but would not provide professional supervision over Registered Nurses or Public Health Nurses. The Program Supervisor II - Public Health Nursing supervises one or more public health programs which are more complex and varied and directs professional staff including Licensed Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurses and Public Health Nurses in accordance with licensure requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree and two years experience in a public health setting OR Bachelor's degree and four years experience in a public health setting OR Associate's degree and six years experience in a public health setting; AND Two years experience as a Program Supervisor I - Public Health Nursing OR two years as a Public Health Nurse II or Community Health Nurse II

LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Valid Certificate as a Public Health Nurse may be required. Valid California Driver's license.

A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
