POSITION DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the East Valley Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Program Specialist, Special Education provides consultation, coaching, one-to-one and group presentations, classroom support, and instructional and behavioral strategies for general educators, special education teachers, designated instructional and services personnel, and others providing instructional services to students.

Requirements / Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (brief summary, see job description) • Provides technical assistance to special and general education staff regarding program development and maintenance of special education instructional programs to meet federal and state mandates; • Facilitates and supports the implementation of professional learning opportunities at both the regional and school-site level; • Provides consultation, instructional, and behavioral support to address the needs of students with learning difficulties; • Assists districts to meet federal and state standards and special education reporting requirements; • Facilitates the acquisition and use of instructional materials, resources, and equipment, including assistive technology; • Assists with analyzing data and recommends applicable modifications to curriculum and instructional strategies; • Provides ongoing training on behavior management and other instructional methodologies to instructional and support staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Possession of a valid California Clear Special Education, Clinical Services, or School Psychologist credential; • Master's degree in special education or a related field from an accredited college or university; • Five or more years of experience in special education programs; • Knowledge of current state and federal regulations related to special education. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and provide all necessary materials online prior to the stated deadline to qualify as a candidate. A copy of a valid California Driver's License is required prior to start of employment.
