Duties and Responsibilities:

  • *Responsible for initiating, planning, coordinating, and evaluating external partnership programs and education activities for the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC).

  • *Identifies and collaborates with organizations in local, statewide, and US-Associated Pacific Island communities that experience cancer disparities, including addressing Native Hawaiian disparities, and prioritizing Cancer Center partnership activities.

  • *Develop long-term strategic relationships, increase visibility in the community, strengthen community education and training programs, and build capacity in communities.

  • *Conducts and participates in needs assessment, program planning, evaluation, and quality improvement efforts.

  • *Collaborates with colleagues and partners to promote UHCC research endeavors and outcomes, including basic science, tobacco control, cancer prevention and early detection, and increasing awareness of clinical trials.

  • *Writes and/or edits/reviews reports, grants, proposals, publications, and other electronic/print materials developed by the program.

  • *Collects and analyzes data utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods.

  • Develops collateral materials for program activities.

  • Supports Office of Community Outreach and Engagement team efforts.

  • Advises supervisor of progress of projects, anticipated problems, and completion.

Minimum Qualifictions:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Social or Behavioral Sciences, Health or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for education and/or public health; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of education and/or public health as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with education and communication, as it relates to the health field.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Hawai`i and/or Pacific Island's culture, health care system, and resources.

  • Knowledge of program planning/evaluation.

  • Ability to present and train information to a variety of audiences.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Ability to work with persons of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

  • Ability to work and interact at a professional level with diverse organizations and audiences including national, regional, and local organizations.

  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple assignments in different areas of responsibility.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint software.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social or Behavioral Sciences, or related field.

  • Experience working with community organizations to address health disparities.

  • Experience in graphics/design.

  • Experience in conducting health communications/cancer control research.

  • Evidence of scholarly work/publication.

  • Previous work experience in a biomedical/health science/university environment.
