Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position supports the work and programs of the National Native American Language Resource center programs, including all facets of project support and implementation.

  • This position supports a team including the Program Director, Co-PIs, sub-awardees and regional centers in fulfilling the mandate of the Native American Language Resource Center Act of 2022 by assisting in defining the direction of the first ever Native American Language Resource Center.

  • Works in collaboration with the Program Director, Project PI and Co-PIs to deliver the five primary pillars (1. Policy and Advocacy, 2. Support for Teacher Training Programs, 3. Resources Development, 4. Research and Dissemination, 5. Leadership Development) of the National Native American Language Resource Center (N-NALRC) grant and in alignment with Hawai'i 'Imiloa's mission.

  • Supports the Program Director in the research, resource and content development, training, data collection, reporting, and logistics necessary for N-NALRC grant-related projects.

  • Assists in the management and the maintenance of the project timeline to ensure timely delivery of high standard products.

  • Coordinates schedules, timelines and deliverables on a project master calendar (electronic and/or manual) and makes approved adjustments as necessary to ensure that project is delivered on time, to specifications and high standards, and on budget.

  • Assists with the management of grant budget and necessary procurements to support deliverable completion.

  • Assists with the organization and logistics of working with third-party providers and vendors to deliver elements that cannot be produced in-house.

  • Assists with data gathering and tracking for formative assessments, and in the collection of feedback from collaborators and project users to gauge success of projects.

  • Assists with the editing of reports and pillar tracking for grant reporting.

  • Assists in the preparation of progress and results reports of milestone pillars for the Program Director and co-PIs.

  • Works with multiple teams both internal and external of the University to assist with research and the development of guides, programs, conferences and multimedia products that incorporate English, Native American Language (NAL) and Hawaiian language mediums.

  • Assists in all aspects of resource center development for tribes and organizations working to develop educational programs through the use of resource center developed materials. May travel to various sites to assist with research and planning for grant deliverables, as well as for execution of deliverables, workshops and conferences and summer institutes. May require some evening and weekend work.

  • Participates in liaison meetings and trainings, as appropriate, and assists with the implementation of new or revised processes, systems, or policies.

  • Coordinates youth leadership institute and conference participants.

  • Support team in grant reporting and data gathering.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of baccalaureate degree in the fields of Hawaiian studies, education, or other related field and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with project support; or any equivalent combination of education and or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.

  • Experience working in Native American, Hawaiian or endangered language medium programs.

  • Experience with multiple facets of administrative support in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic in an innovative and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, and other individuals.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate personal computers and apply word processing software.

  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work setting.

Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Hawaiian and Native American cultures.

  • Knowledgeable of the Native American Languages Act (NALA) of 1990 and the Native American Language Resource Center Act (NALRCA) of 2022, policy development and issues facing Native American and Hawaiian populations.

  • Knowledgeable of Native American Language programs and educational institutions.

  • Experience in multicultural and multilingual environments.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education or Hawaiian Studies.

  • Experience working with students in Hawai'i P-12 schools.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge with Adobe Creative Cloud design software.

  • Working knowledge of UH and RCUH policies and procedures.

  • Fluency in Hawaiian or any other endangered Native American Language.

  • Experience in grant writing and facilitation.

  • Experience working with the general public, and in conference, program and workshop coordination.

  • Experience in the international, national, and Hawai'i language learning and research communities.
