Job Title: College and Career Program Specialist

Salary Range: $22.59 - $27.48

Reports to: Principal or Designee

Please note that this position is 213 days (10.5 months) with 6 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro-rated. Job Summary:

Track student post-secondary plans and provide support to students in order to reach their post-secondary goals including college, military, apprenticeships and employment. These services and support begins during students' first year at McMinnville High School and continue after graduation.

Essential Job Functions:

Knowledgeable in all post-secondary areas including, but not limited to, college, military, apprenticeships and employment. Ability to proactively expand knowledge of changes as they occur.

Ability to collaborate with post-secondary partners to provide opportunities for all students.

Coordinating opportunities for students to expand their knowledge on post-secondary options; including, but not limited to collaborating with post-secondary partners.

Support programs and initiatives directed at increasing the number of students who have a plan directly after high school.

Create opportunities for students to explore post-secondary options and completing steps to reach their goal. Being innovative on ways to provide opportunities and re-evaluate opportunities based on stakeholder feedback.

Student Follow-up: Review and update database of student enrollment in post-secondary institutions in collaboration with the College & Career Readiness team.

Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.

Prompt and regular attendance is required.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

Other Job Functions:

Collaborate with 9th seminar, PEP, AVID and TRIO/UB teachers to assist students in exploring, creating and pursuing a post-secondary goal.

Provide support to graduates that are seeking guidance with post-secondary options.

Professionalism: Follow District and school policies and procedures.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and the public. Maintain confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families. Maintain personal appearance appropriate to the position.

Communications: Make personal contacts with the students themselves and the parents of students who are near graduation without college and/or career plans or recently graduated and not attending college. Develop statistical reports showing all graduates and their college and career plans, including interventions applied.

Collaboration: Report the collected information to administrative staff and the College & Career Readiness team.

Implement interventions to get more students to a post-secondary institution. This can include parent nights, financial aid nights and visitations.

Essential Job Requirements

  • Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.

Experience working with high school students.

Ability to communicate with all stakeholders about the importance of all post-secondary options and how to pursue each option.

Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends in order to meet student and family needs.

Ability to use data systems and reports to track student trends.

High level of skill with computers and programs.

Ability to maintain an accurate student records system.

Experience and knowledge of high school operations.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing with adults and students.

Ability to collaborate harmoniously as part of a team in order to achieve the goals of McMinnville High School.

Ability to carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations.

Fluent verbal and written skills in Spanish and English are preferred.

Education Required: Completed associates or higher degree, completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more) or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.

Experience Preferred: Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, with school-age children.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Oregon Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, staff, and parents.

Reasoning Ability- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit, and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Terms Of Employment: 10.5 months. Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
