This recruitment is for one full-time Program Specialist 2 position at Riverside State Park located in Spokane County, Washington. This position will require you to work both indoors and outdoors.  Typical work is Mon-Friday, however this position may require you to attend meetings or help coordinate events at alternate work locations during non-standard work hours including evenings and weekends.

This position coordinates Special Activity Permit processing, enterprise programs within Riverside Area Parks, and assists with coordination of volunteer programs. This position will also be the primary administrator and provide technical support for SharePoint.

As an integral part of the community engagement team, this position will work in coordination with the Community Outreach & Business Manager to update the Area's websites, post park alerts, update brochures, and act as a liaison with the City of Spokane and Spokane County's Parks and Recreation staff to coordinate summer & winter programming at Riverside, Spokane River Centennial Trail, Columbia Plateau Trail, Crawford, and Mount Spokane State Parks.

Under general supervision from the Area Manager and the Community Engagement Manager, in collaboration with the Eastern Region Headquarters, and Olympia Headquarters this position will manage the Area's Commercial Use Permits, Film and Photography Permits, Special Activity Permits, Remote-controlled Aircraft Permits, and Geocaching Permits.

Duties will also include managing sign requests for the area including producing mock-ups, submittals, and tracking orders. In addition, this position will act as the gatekeeper for O-34's for the Inland Northwest Area and provide support to the Spokane Region Manager in tracking and submitting project requests from Mount Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park - the Area's largest concessionaire.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and process Special Activity Permits for the Riverside Area:

  • Ensure compliance within parks permit procedures and requirements.

  • Act as the direct liaison.

  • Coordinate with permit holders to ensure they understand park policies, including Discovery Pass and winter recreations permit requirements.

  • Work with local staff and provide final approval on requests.

  • Serve as the primary administrator and provide technical support for SharePoint.

  • Maintain event and park calendar.

  • Ensure partners are aware of major events.

  • Work directly with event organizers and ensure participants understand requirements.

  • Assist in applying for grants through the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) and coordinate with State Parks designated RCO point of contact as needed.

  • Assist with office and booth coverage for customer service and retail sales:

  • Locations will include Riverside HQ in Nine Mile Falls, the Bowl & Pitcher Contact Center, and at Mount Spokane.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelor's degree* in business, Natural Resource, Recreation Management, or a closely related field.

And

Valid Driver's license with no restrictions (other than corrective lenses)

Four (4) years of relevant  work experience (may substitute year-for-year, for education).

DESIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Skilled in SharePoint site management.

Knowledge of state government, rules, and regulations:

  • Knowledge of State Parks rules and regulations.

Other Critical Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Perspectives:

  • Ability to work independently while using good judgement and problem-solving skills in decision making.

  • Promotes cooperation and an eagerness and capacity to learn new skills.

  • Must be a self-starter that can see a project through to completion.
