Program Officer 1

The Position

Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.

Incumbents recommend and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or a staff consisting of several students, volunteers and/or contract staff.

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) located in Boulder City, Nevada is recruiting for Program Officer 1, Volunteer Coordinator. Under the direction of the facility Administrator, the Program Officer 1 is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating a program for recruitment, orientation, and the operation of the volunteer program for the Nevada State Veterans Home.

In addition, it oversees the volunteer program for the Department of Veterans Services. Developing and monitoring a program budget, shopping, and overseeing the facility gift shop is included in the job duties. The incumbent will represent the department at public functions and make formal presentation briefings on the volunteer services provided by the department.

The incumbent is also required to attend meetings of the Nevada Veterans Assistance League (NVAL) and act as a liaison between the SNSVH and NVAL. Experience in managing a volunteer program is preferred. This position requires working occasional weekends and varied hours.
