General Overview

In partnership, Mass General Brigham, a national leader in healthcare delivery and research, The Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers (EMK), an in-district charter of the Boston Public Schools(BPS); and the City of Boston are collaborating to design and implement a Health Careers Training Partnership. This partnership embodies the vision of high school experience that inspires and empowers youth to meet the urgent healthcare needs of our communities. With MGB leveraging its vast network of healthcare expertise to teach and prepare our next generation of healthcare workers, as they in turn learn from the lived experiences of EMK's richly diverse student population. A nearly quarter-century partnership between MGB and EMK has evolved into a collective action strategy focused on community impact. The Program Manager for the Bloomberg Healthcare Initiative will report to the Director and will work closely with Mass General Brigham, and Edward M Kennedy operations leaders to establish and implement high-quality health careers training programs within the public school system. The program manager will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that prepare students for careers in healthcare, fostering a pipeline of skilled professionals in the community.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Implementation
  • Provide support and coordination for assigned activities, ensuring all assignments and projects are delivered on-time and within scope. Work collaboratively with operational and clinical leadership to engage all relevant stakeholders and develop useful presentation materials with the goal of advancing and achieving the stated milestones and objectives. Use and update project management software to track milestones and student database to track student outcomes. Assist in quarterly report preparation and bi-annual fiscal reports to the funder.
  • Curriculum Implementation
  • Conduct and manage the research, documentation, and analysis, utilizing both internal and external sources of operational, financial, and benchmarking/best practice data.
  • Partnership Management
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships between representatives of the public school system and the academic medical center.
  • Student Engagement
  • Implement strategies to attract, enroll, and retain students in health careers training programs. Participate and lead on-site visits and activities with support from school staff.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Establish and maintain a system for continuous program improvement based on feedback, data analysis, and industry trends.

This role is grant-funded with a term of 5 years.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a concentration in Education, Healthcare Administration, Public Health or related field.

  • 3 to 5 years of Program Management experience required, particularly in education or healthcare settings

  • 1 to 2 years of Youth Development/Education experience required

  • Knowledge of health careers training programs, curriculum development and industry standards

  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Ability to foster trust and collaboration within all levels of an organization and throughout a complex variety of departments in multiple disciplines when indicated. Ability to foster trust and rapport with high school students and school staff.

  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills: able to gather data using database or project management tools to compile information from a variety of disparate sources and manipulate large amounts of data, able to ensure data integrity using quality checks at various points in the process.

  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills, ability to present data to both business and clinical constituents in a clear, meaningful, and concise manner. Ability to run on-site school visits.

  • Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy, and relationship management.

  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and manage the budget for the Health Careers Training Partnership, ensuring efficient use of resources.
