Job Description Summary:

The Program Manager directly supports the strategic planning and implementation of substance misuse prevention and interpersonal violence prevention at Texas A&M University. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Substance Misuse and Violence Prevention unit within Student Life, the Program Manager assists with:

  • Planning, organizing, directing, and managing the development of prevention education programs, projects, and special initiatives

  • Supervision of staff

  • Establishing and maintaining positive, reciprocally beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Assessment

  • Representation on university-wide committees and task forces

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years' progressive work experience in student affairs, substance misuse or violence prevention work or a related area.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge about sexual and interpersonal violence, collegiate substance misuse, and students of concern services.

  • Knowledge about the development and delivery of education programs, prevention efforts, and trainings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • 5+ full-time progressive experience obtained in a university setting.

  • Previous experience developing and delivering education programs, prevention efforts, and training.

  • Knowledge of national best practices related to violence prevention and substance misuse prevention programming.

  • Knowledge and application of student learning and development theories.

  • Budgeting experience.

  • Previous work with collegiate substance misuse and students of concern or related issues.

  • Professional staff or student supervision experience.

  • Ability to build and maintain successful collaborative relationships.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate on committees, coalitions, administration, and community agencies.

  • Ability to be accurate in the performance of duties and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision

  • Assists the Assistant Director with strategic and administrative oversight of co-curricular, primary and secondary prevention programs on the topics of substance misuse and interpersonal violence prevention.

  • Assists the Assistant Director with developing and implementing policies and procedures consistent with legal and institutional mandates; consults with the Director on proposed changes in services, policies, and practices as a result of new state, federal, or legal guidance.

  • Supervises and manages assigned full-time staff, graduate and undergraduate student employees, and peer educators.

  • Sets goals and deadlines. Communicates with and organizes a workflow for supervisees. Monitors supervisee productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching. Receives complaints and resolves problems. Prepares and submits performance evaluations. Ensures adherence to legal and university policies & procedures.

Program Administration

  • Assists with the development and implementation of office-wide programs, including social norming campaigns and prevention awareness months.

  • In concert with the Assistant Director, co-coordinate assessment efforts; creates and manages learning outcome assessments.

Presentations and Trainings

  • Develops and updates training and presentation materials.

  • Facilitates presentations, trainings and workshops.

Liaising and Content Knowledge

  • Develops and maintains relationships with campus and community stakeholders to implement programming that is responsive to the ongoing needs of the University community.

  • Cultivates an understanding of campus approaches to supporting survivors of interpersonal violence as well as students who are addressing substance misuse issues - utilizing best-practices developed by a variety of organizations including, but not limited to, the American College Health Association and the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. Shares these approaches with internal staff and University stakeholders as appropriate.

University/Division/Department Duties

  • Serves on University, department and division committees and task forces as well as serves in a volunteer capacity in support of the Division and Department.
