As a part of VMware's Engineering Services, the Technical Education team is responsible for the professional development of the R&D and IT community worldwide. We consult and define enablement strategies and programs ensuring our engineers have the knowledge needed to develop VMware solutions for now, what's next, and beyond. As a part of our team, you'll help deliver game-changing solutions across business units and product lines. On any given day, we may be determining learning objectives and writing curriculum, updating how-to and best practice training, storyboarding videos, building interactive courses, analyzing existing content for revision, and designing learning paths.
The Program Manager Technical Training Development will be responsible for owning and devising the plan for key development strategies across our technical teams, with support for other broad enablement efforts including curriculum design and development of the long-term plan. This role requires a tactical mindset and understanding of software development, along with the ability to lead content development efforts. The ideal candidate will contribute to the creation of high-quality, prescriptive enablement materials for engineering and IT and play an integral role in the ongoing design of the technical curriculum, which spans across multiple levels within VMware.
Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Over the first 6-12 months you will:
Build and own the technical content development plan.
Demonstrate collaboration with members of the TechEDU team and actively contribute to internal discussions and projects.
Support team enablement efforts around onboarding, technical training, and other key areas.
Work cross-functionally and develop a trusting partnership with stakeholders, SMEs, and cross-functional teams.
Strong influencer and able to secure buy-in from multiple stakeholders to agree on a solution or concept.
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
This person will be responsible for working with key partners and subject-matter experts (SMEs) to consult on and complete projects, implement feedback, and apply instructional design standards and criteria. This person will be responsible for ensuring that training programs are developed and delivered with the highest standards of quality set forth by the Technical Education Team.
On a regular basis you will:
Understand and architect training on VMware internal services and best practices.
Translate runbooks and manuals from various sources using instructional design knowledge to design and develop effective and engaging instructional materials that meet audience needs.
Create the high-level design and develop training content for engineers (including but not limited to instructor-led presentation scripts, e-Learning courses, videos, user guides) using sound writing, communication, and instructional design principles and strategies.
Develop quizzes and assessment questions to support courseware.
Where is this role located?
Flexible: The location of this role is flexible within the United States of America. Work will be done from an office some days during a week and other days from a non-VMware building.
