Position Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Affairs, this position is responsible for ensuring the TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) program complies with the goals and objectives of the grant (to increase retention, good academic standing, graduation and transferring of at-risk students), and for provide leadership for college activities and processes related to at-risk student success.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster the values outlined in the mission and vision statements (Quality, Innovation, Excellence) embracing a positive attitude, a sense of empathy, and provide positive employee interactions with gratitude.

  • Manage the TRIO SSS grant in accordance with the terms of the grant and any updated US Department of Education rules and regulations.

  • Supervise TRIO SSS grant staff, including evaluation, hiring, and professional development.

  • Manage the TRIO SSS budget, including distribution of grant aid to qualifying participants.

  • Lead recruitment of new TRIO SSS participants, including developing publicity materials and maintaining partnerships with referring staff, faculty, and agencies.

  • Approve qualifying applicants to the TRIO SSS program.

  • Provide success coaching to a portion of participants including developing plans for academic and personal success, supporting financial aid processes, and making referrals to resources.

  • Ensure the maintenance of thorough, accurate documentation for grant recordkeeping.

  • Maintain TRIO SSS Policies & Procedures.

  • Review participant documentation and evaluate the effectiveness of services provided.

  • Ensure the Annual Performance Report (APR) is accurate and timely.

  • Inform college initiatives related to at-risk student success, including service on student success teams.

  • Cultivate an institutional climate supportive of TRIO eligible students.

  • Lead staff training activities related to inclusion and diversity awareness.

  • Operate within the guidelines set forth in the College's policies, procedures and practices.

  • Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in adult education, counseling, social work, education administration, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Experience

  • Five years of experience supporting at-risk students, preferably in a community college setting.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Wyoming driver's license, with a good driving record, and be insurable by the college's insurance carrier.

Equivalency Statement

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in adult education, counseling, social work, education administration, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Experience with TRIO projects and writing successful grant proposals.

  • Experience teaching economically and educationally disadvantaged students.

  • Positive work experience in Native American communities, preferably from the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of and ability to adhere to CWC Policies and Procedures.

  • Considerable knowledge of best practices in education for low-income, first-generation adults at a college level, with specific emphasis on the TRIO SSS eligible population, the behaviors that tend to result from the challenges they face, and the academic disadvantage they face due to these behaviors and circumstances.

  • Working knowledge of how adults differ from children in their learning process, how higher education differs from K-12 education, and how the education process affects a broad spectrum of the TRIO SSS participants.

  • Ability to coordinate a broad variety of learning-related activities at wide-ranging levels of involvement and outcomes.

  • Ability to encourage and assist diverse students in a warm, professional, helpful manner.

  • Ability to achieve goals and provide leadership related to at-risk student success.

  • Working knowledge of creating, managing, analyzing, and reporting on the achievement of student outcomes.

  • Considerable knowledge of higher education dynamics, programs, degrees, requirements, expectations and financial impact, particularly at community colleges.

  • Ability to effectively write and manage federal grants.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accurate budget administration.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines and with attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, personal work ethic and high degree of personal integrity.

  • Ability to effectively manage diverse staff as supervisor, budget manager, evaluator, learning facilitator, and mentor.

  • Knowledge of the Wind River Indian Reservation, the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes, and other underrepresented communities within the college service area.

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Applications for Education (GAFE) and Ellucian/Datatel/Colleague, Student Degree Planning, and other applications as assigned.

  • Skill in valuing inclusion in the accomplishment of goals and work tasks.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a tactful and diplomatic manner that demonstrates exceptional customer service.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with executives, managers, supervisors, fellow employees, vendors, contractors, and the community.

  • Ability to serve effectively and in a collegial manner on various teams or committees.

  • Ability to resolve conflict in a professional manner.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems.

Level of Supervision

  • This position operates under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Working Environment Reasonable accommodation will be extended to otherwise qualified individuals with a legally recognized disability.

Equipment Used

  • Work is performed using classroom instructional multimedia (computer, projector, speaker microphones, TV monitors, and document camera) and standard office equipment (phone, computer, photo copier).

Physical Requirements

  • Tasks require variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Regular talking, hearing and seeing required in the normal course of performing the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is generally performed in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, weekend and evening work may be required.
