Program Manager - Job ID 10268

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations.

SDL is seeking applicants for a program manager with a software development background. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day software development activities for military space software systems programs. The program manager will work as part of a larger team with developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding a customer's needs and issues, usually by direct interface

  • Assembling and directing corporate resources toward execution of the contract

  • Identifying, tracking, avoiding, and mitigating risks

  • Trading issues of scope, approach, cost, and schedule

  • Delivering the contracted result

  • Managing daily activities of an engineering support and logistics team

  • Pursuing new business development opportunities

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in a technical engineering degree

  • Five or more years of technical program experience

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience

  • Proficiency in task management

  • Ability to organize and manage a team

  • Experience developing program schedules and controlling budgets to meet required deadlines

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while making direct contributions to team success

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Up-to-date computer skills

  • Willing to travel

  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Must be able to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA with a technical BS degree

  • BS in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or information systems

  • Top Secret DOD Security Clearance

The Spacecraft Systems Engineer is responsible for leading a team through the architecture, technical trades, risk tracking, requirements tracking, and the technical progress and execution of satellite programs. The engineer must have the ability to understand the customer's vision and work with the team to translate into a technical solution, work with program management to ensure technical requirements and performance are achieved, oversee and lead groups of small (<5) to medium (<25) teams of engineers, support interactions with customers, and provide technical support to related proposal efforts. The selected candidate will support the AFRL/RVEN SmallSat Portfolio (SSP) and their dynamic environment to conceive, design, assemble, integrate, test, and operate small satellite missions that demonstrate new warfighter capabilities.</p> Required Qualifications: * 3+ years experience in an engineering background * BS degree in a technical area * Experience as a technical lead with system-level responsibilities * Excellent communication skills * Ability to present clearly and succinctly to customers * In-depth familiarity with spacecraft requirements and subsystems * Experience with space hardware development * Ability to travel (under normal business conditions) * Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD security clearance Preferred Qualifications: * 8+ years of relevant spacecraft systems engineering * Experience in Assembly, Integration, & Test (AI&T), Launch and/or Operations for space systems * In-depth familiarity with small satellites (<200kg), systems requirements and subsystems</p> * Experience with autonomous spacecraft * Experience with rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) programs * Understanding of space environment * Understanding of risks and risk mitigations for spaceflight systems * Experience with military programs * Current Top-Secret clearance SCI with SSBI SDL Benefits: SDL offers competitive salaries and unique benefits, among which include a variety of inexpensive-premium, quality health insurance options; automatic employer retirement contributions, up to 14.2% of base salary; flexible work schedules; generous annual and sick leave; and discounted USU tuition of 50% for employees and dependents.
