Job Purpose

Deliver internal/external communications strategies/plans/projects/policies that support National Grid's purpose, vision and values and demonstrates our commitment to our people, customers and communities.Please update the Job Purpose prior to publishing your requisition.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the delivery of internal/external communication plans/projects/policies in conjunction with the business in order to ensure consistent and timely messages are rolled out in line with the business strategy, leadership qualities, purpose, vision and values.

  • Work collaboratively with the broader Corporate Affairs and US Strategic Communications teams, to provide aligned and timely communication messages across National Grid and its stakeholders.

  • Develop and deliver content through existing channels and other methods (newsletters/media/social media/digital) to amplify our story to internal/external target audiences.

  • Represent the company as spokesperson to the media at the regional/local level on company activities, policies, issues, programs and positions, as required, in order to ensure that National Grid's brand and reputation are protected.

  • Develop and maintain solid working relationships with all local reporters and as required to ensure that key messages and brand are understood and embedded (includes digital media).

  • Provide media advice and counsel to the Rhode Island jurisdiction/functions at the local level to facilitate timely and accurate responses to media inquiries that protect and enhance National Grid's reputation and brand.

  • Develop internal communications plans, execute, and utilize internal communications channels to advance key themes, activities and practices.

  • Implement crisis communication procedures to protect National Grid's reputation and brand.

  • Support business with messaging, guidance, and internal and external support during storms and other major events.


  • Bachelor's Degree required in communications or related field, or comparable experience.

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a corporate communications function, with responsibilities in external/internal communications preferred.

  • Experience in organizations focused on innovative communication strategies and solutions a plus.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to simplify complex concepts.

  • Action-orientation, motivated by results, with an ability to deal with ambiguity will be a plus.

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of all aspects of internal/external communication mix, including channel management, research and measurement.

  • Demonstrates the ability to listen and understand the regional/state themes, trends or consequences of a situation in order to develop and implement appropriate media relations plans and actions for the area.

  • Has a solid understanding and working knowledge of regional/state public policy and other complex issues

  • Ability to work as part of a team, values learning from others' input and expertise and actively looks for mutually beneficial solutions
