Job Summary

Responsible for the design, oversight, change management, and consistency of sales coverage, cadence, and processes required to increase selling capacity and improving Sales execution.


Essential Functions and

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for partnering closely with sales executives and other cross-functional business leaders to manage multiple projects that drive operational efficiencies through process, system, and productivity; while meeting deadlines.

  • In partnership with senior leadership, leads and contributes to the annual fiscal year transition planning process and execution of the defined Go-To-Market strategies.

  • Works closely with Business Analysts to monitor and validate sales coverage across Regions and territories, ensure pacing to KPIs, and identify and deliver reporting needs.

  • Collaborates with Finance and HR on development and implementation of best-in-class Sales Compensation Plans.

  • Support sales needs and balance them against the needs of the business while being of service to Sales to help the company achieve its overall sales goals.

  • Participates in and supports Quarterly Business Reviews and other Sales hosted events to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Negotiates project needs, thinks critically, offers solutions to complex problems that reduce barriers to market and sales.

  • Ensures sales activities are aligned with forecast and goal targets

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university

  • Minimum four years' work experience in program or project management capacity

  • Sales analysis/operations experience is a plus

  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience and/or training

  • Self-directed, self-motivated and demonstrated experience providing ideas and solutions to further business understanding.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, gather and define an approach based on data and remain flexible as priorities shift.

  • Exemplifies initiative, intelligence, strong attention to detail, and integrity in striving for continuous improvement.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as, strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to develop moderately complex financial and operational models using spreadsheets and database software.

The role is accountable for competitively differentiating the Bank with its critical focus on delivering the desired customer experience in the region through active management of Branch Managers and deep community involvement. At the same time, the Market Manager is accountable to ensure compliance with overall Bank and regulatory policies and guidelines, including national standards, by confirming that all policies and procedures are put in place and adhered to within the region. KEY DIMENSIONS * Manage the Business / Organizational Leadership (Market Planning, Branch Management, High Performance Culture Management) * Manage Bank Image / Community Leadership (Customer Experience) * Manage the People (Managerial Leadership) * Manage the Relationships (Client and Relationship Management) * Manage the Risk (Risk Management and Control) ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Manage the Business / Organizational Leadership The Market President is accountable to maximize the growth and profitability of the Market (both short-term and long-term) through the development and management of the Market sales and service plan in a 1-2 year time frame to deliver comprehensive banking solutions that address the customer needs of the Market. The role is accountable for quantitative direct net income performance for individual branches and the collection of branches within the Market, with a particular focus on productivity. This requires the Market Manager to: Market Planning * Establish priorities and lead the development of Market business, sales and service, and people strategies in collaboration with segment management, ensuring optimal alignment, integration, and consistent implementation of segment and Bank goals and strategies (Retail, Business Banking, Wealth) within the Market in support of the One Harris vision. Systematically identify gaps between segment strategies and collaborate with Chicagoland leadership to develop solutions. * Successfully partner with the Distribution and Acquisition Teams to identify and assess opportunities to accelerate growth / expansion within the Market. Assess and deploy equipment and processes to optimize the allocation of resources within the Market to support strategy execution in conjunction with both market and segment management. * Based on knowledge and analysis of current and future Market, recommend the creation, development, modification, amalgamation, and divestiture of branches and ABMs in support of a sustainable competitive advantage and increased local responsiveness. Implement approved changes to the physical branch distribution network, which may include the integration of acquired entities. * Assess both the competition and market opportunities on a regular basis to identify local strengths, opportunities, weaknesses, and threats, creating Market plans to address. Based on these insights, advocate for local needs, providing input to the Regional President and segment / product group colleagues regarding the effectiveness of communications, product design, and policies and procedures, as appropriate. Note: The Regional President is not accountable for product or policy design Branch Management * Actively manage and develop branch managers to ensure approved business objectives and targets of the Market are achieved. * Communicate goals, plans and assignments for each branch manager to achieve their objectives, and review and monitor sales and service performance against plan and standards on a regular basis through local leadership sales meetings and pipeline review. * Improve customer service levels by role modeling desired customer service behaviors, visibly participating in the customer issue resolution process, and monitoring adherence to customer service standards. Systematically monitor local customer survey results to identify opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and retention. * Leverage the BMO Harris brand and customer segmentation scheme through delivering and managing the defined customer experience and value proposition, actively managing service levels by differentiating the way we care for customers to create high levels of client loyalty and retention. * Provide leadership and create positive working relationships to develop an effective sales and service environment that ensures the provision of consistently superior customer service in the Market to existing and potential customers of all banking groups either through direct service provision or referrals. Work effectively with colleagues (Retail, Business Banking, Wealth segment leaders) to leverage sales and referral opportunities to improve share of wallet, acquire new customers and provide the full financial service offering to customers. * Manage CRA performance by ensuring the design and development of appropriate CRA and related programs to achieve targets and monitoring variances in compliance with regulatory, safety and soundness, and CRA requirements. * Lead major change initiatives in support of the region's business strategies and ensure the successful implementation of region/bank-wide change initiatives within the Market by communicating effectively with region work force regarding new initiatives (e.g., technological changes, problems, changes in strategy) and managing the impact of change in the region.. High Performance Culture Management * Create a work environment that supports innovation, creativity, teamwork, and diversity in order to enhance the region's ability to recruit and retain high caliber individuals. * Through direction and example, continuously reinforce strategic role clarity, teamwork and the core values of the Bank. Ensure the effective integration of progressive change strategies through open communication and visible and active support. * Actively manage top talent and aggressively address job fit / performance issues in support of a high performance culture. Regularly provide personal recognition to individuals who are identified as having delivered a superior performance to reinforce standards of excellent work throughout the market, consistent with the sales cycle when the superior performance is sales related. 2. Manage Bank Image / Community Leadership The Market Manager is accountable to build a strong personal reputation in the local market and provide active community leadership in order to create and maintain a highly visible BMO Harris presence in the region that supports continued business development and grows long term franchise value. This requires the Market Manager to: * Establish and enhance the Bank's profile in the community, foster and maintain a differentiated local focus, and build brand acceptance by key market segments and individual clients / prospects through participating in worthwhile business and community activities and seeking out and creating opportunities to promote the products and services of all Banking Groups. This includes public speaking, presentations, customer events, employee events, community events, etc. * Contribute personally to the Bank's business objectives through direct market intervention by way of joint sales calls, establishing a personal referral network and a variety of business development activities, including leveraging knowledge of local relationships and effectively managing Community Boards to support and promote business development and represent the interest of the Bank in community decision-making. * Represent the Bank in the region's business community (customers, industry associations, government, etc.) and play an active governance role on community boards, as required. 3. Manage the People The Market Manager is accountable to build, sustain and manage a diverse team (including both region support staff) that is capable of delivering the sales and service, operational and risk management performance required for the Market. This requires the Market Manager to: * Provide planning, leadership and direction to a region team of employees in order to align tasks and assignments with region goals and objectives. * Establish and optimize region team integration by articulating the linkages among the accountabilities and authorities of different roles in the region and by establishing the context in which they will work collaboratively with one another to drive business results and deliver on our One Harris promise to work together effectively to help clients reach their goals. * Assess individual effectiveness of direct reports and make decisions regarding performance reviews and base and variable pay. * Provide regular coaching and feedback to direct reports, and develop individual career and/or development plans. 4. Manage the Risk The Market Manager is accountable to maintain high level governance and a sound credit portfolio by managing risk (credit, asset liability, market, operational, and reputational risk) and minimizing losses through audit, monitoring and control reports and functions, ensuring compliance requirements, audits and verifications are communicated, understood and completed in accordance with Bank (BMO and Harris Financial Corp) Policies & Procedures, standards, and regulatory, legal and ethical requirements. This requires the Market Manager to: * Monitor controllable non-interest expenses and revenues of the region's profitability to ensure both short and longer term targets are met or exceeded, working with management to leverage best practices and expense reduction opportunities. * Make pricing / policy exceptions, as appropriate, in order to retain and win key business. * Ensure effective control, monitoring and reporting procedures are in place and appropriately managed by direct report Branch Managers. * Monitor credit origination and credit portfolio performance / asset quality for the region's portfolio to ensure that it is maintained at acceptable levels. (Note: This does not require the Region President to be credit qualified in all instances.) * Ensure identification and reporting of transactions or patterns of activity which are suspected to be related to money laundering. * Develop and maintain effective relationships with regulators and auditors. Recommend to US Corporate Risk Management revisions to policy that may be required to address business, market, regulatory or legislative changes. * Know and adhere to banking regulations and company directives by reviewing the appropriate reference material and completing the annual compliance training courses as required in order to effectively manage risk, operational, and compliance requirements.
