Facebook is seeking a Program Manager to join our Global Data Center Connectivity team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly growing infrastructure efficiently operates, and our innovative services delivered.

The Global Data Center Connectivity team delivers the physical networking infrastructure - one of the foundational elements of our data center program. The successful candidate is responsible for managing the operations of our connectivity lab space (CapEx and OpEx), provide project management services for connectivity Incubator, NPI, product development and validation pipeline, and provide support to big bet projects. The person in this role will be the key point of contact for managing the full project life-cycle from participation in the planning and upstream engineering phases, to project kick-offs on site, in our dedicated R&D lab spaces and facilities, data centers or in lab space within our fleet of data centers.

This is a highly collaborative role with collocated cross-functional partners locally, other data centers, as well as at Facebook HQ. This position is full-time and located in Santa Clara, CA. Travel to other data centers and R&D spaces will be required 10%.

Program Manager, Global Data Center Connectivity Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Control
  • Create, maintain and report on site project and program scope, schedules and milestones. Work closely with other Program Management teams throughout the project lifecycle from the creation of project and program plans through project close out.

Innovation and NPI (New Product Introduction) - Front end cross-functional R&D support and development, evaluation, evolution, and transformation. This motivated candidate will successfully drive new technologies and approaches from ideation to closure by leveraging NPI systems and processes such as Lean Six-Sigma/Agile/Kaizen/MRPII, to continually improve activities, bridging gaps in performance, quality, execution, and implementations.


  • Continually review ongoing projects for efficiencies in schedule, budget, and opportunities to enable cross-functional partners to be successful. Document data points to assist with field coordination of projects.

    Support development of project management best practices and initiatives, coordinating SOPs/SIPs with vendors, and participating in global and regional standards. Coordinate lessons learned with the Program management team.


  • Support leadership with forecasting and budget efforts as required. Share current project status with upstream and downstream partners, ensuring crisp and complete hand-offs between teams.

Technical Reviews

  • Establish milestones for equipment purchase and track and report against these milestones. Assist with the selection and review of a contractor to support the structured cabling work within a data center.


  • Assure delivery and maintenance of all structured cabling and connectivity, on time, within budget, and to global Facebook standards of quality, reliability, and uptime.


  • Report progress and risks on site projects and other initiatives to key stakeholders.


  • Work with team members to establish and track milestones. Conduct pre-project planning, project handoffs, and ensure design delivery and verification.

    Identify and respond to project risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively through effective action and appropriate escalation. Track and manage project change order requests.

A strong sense of creativity to aid in the process of supporting new product ideas and solving problems creatively. With a close attention to detail, ensuring every step of the development and process of R&D opportunities are met with diligence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in project or network infrastructure build outs.

Demonstrated leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including experience leading up, across and down multiple business and technology organizations.

Experience managing OpEx/CapEx budget >$10M.

Record of drafting and submitting budget proposals and recommending subsequent budget changes where necessary.

Experience architecting repeatable mobilization processes to enable contracted staff team with minimal oversight assuring Safety, Schedule, Cost, and Quality.

Experience managing strategic planning with senior cross-functional partner leadership and engineering teams.

Experience delivering High Priority Programs achieving global and capital impact.

Demonstrated communication, and proven experience presenting strategies and visions to senior executives.

Self-starter with a record of thriving in a fast-paced, white-space environment with a proven track record of delivering on commitments.

Experience providing solutions to project related problems.

Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and MS Project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in an Engineering or science related field.

Data center development and/or construction experience.

Experience with structured engineering processes.

PMP or similar project management related certification.

Experience with Primavera 6.

Experience in executing Optical Inline Amplifier deployment, passive/active mesh network connectivity over single and multi-wave mode technology, supporting Optical networking platforms, LANs, WANs, and other network designs.
