  • This position is eligible for up to one day remote work per week.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Program Manager for Student Leadership Development is responsible for the coordination of meaningful and impactful student learning opportunities that enrich the curricular and co-curricular experiences of students. The Program Manager will provide vision, strategic direction, and accountability for two signature initiatives, the Leadership Scholars Program, and the Peer Mentor Program. The Program Manager will also work in partnership with colleagues in the Dean of Students Office, Office of Student Engagement, and Office of Residence Life to identify a comprehensive leadership development model that will be implemented in trainings for student affairs paraprofessionals (e.g. peer mentors, orientation leaders, residence assistance, and peer wellness educators). In alignment with Salve's Mercy Mission, Division of Student Affairs pillars, and CAS Standards on Leadership Education and Development, this position will coordinate and facilitate efforts to provide a holistic approach to addressing leadership learning at Salve Regina University. The Program Manger is an active, engaged, highly visible, and student-centered member of the Dean of Students Team. This is a full-time, live-on position with on-call responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement a four-year, scaffolded, mercy-inspired leadership learning curriculum, with measurable outcomes, that provides students with a strong foundation in the competencies necessary to advance in the classroom, organizations, workplace, and beyond.

  • Collaborate with internal colleagues and external community partners to create an engaging and robust schedule of leadership learning opportunities that may include trainings, workshops, lectures, field trips, and service activities.

  • Foster engagement among Leadership Scholars through ongoing community development experiences.

  • Recruit and supervise highly motivated and responsible student leaders for the Peer Mentor Program.

  • Design and implement training, with measurable learning outcomes, for the Peer Mentor Program

  • Facilitate a weekly practicum course (fall semester) for peer mentors.

  • Serve as an active and visible liaison between peer mentors and Salve Compass Advisors.

  • Establish positive working relationships and provide ongoing leadership, support, and advocacy to peer mentors.

  • Collaborate with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Salve Compass partners in the development of curriculum for the First Year Studio and the First Year Retreat

  • Coordinate and conduct activities that foster a sense of community among peer mentors.

  • Engage in continuous quality improvement of leadership programs by conducting ongoing evaluation and assessment.

  • Contribute to an active, vibrant campus life by living on campus and supporting programmatic efforts.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Valid driver's license required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with approximately 2-3 years of work experience is required. Graduate degree accepted in lieu of work experience.

  • Ability to support and identify the needs of diverse populations.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Sound organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to advise and mentor student leaders.

  • Experience exercising sound judgement and the ability to negotiate complex situations required.

  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate leadership programs

  • Ability to facilitate leadership trainings and activities

  • Ability to foster productive and collaborative working relationships.

Preferred:

A master's degree in college student personnel administration, higher education administration, counseling, social work, or a similar field.
