Job Overview

Duke Regional Hospital (DRH) seeks a Program Manager to join its team. The Program Manager will provide administrative leadership of Infection Prevention and Patient Safety departments and coordinate with operational teams to identify and prioritize patient safety concerns and advance relevant improvement work using Duke Quality System principles. In addition to specialized infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement knowledge, the Program Manager will need to demonstrate strong soft skills to be able to read the environment as well as build trust and collaborative relationships with team members across the organization.

Job Duties

  • Provide administrative leadership of Infection Prevention and Patient Safety departments, inclusive of personnel management and development (current personnel: 2 patient safety officers, 2 infection prevention specialists, 1 hand hygiene observer), inclusive of managing call schedule, PTO, maintaining standard work for team member roles, and measuring performance.

  • Coordinate hospital-wide surveillance and reporting activities related to infection prevention and patient safety.

  • Facilitate annual risk assessments, inclusive of analysis and trending of data, goal-setting, workplan development, and implementation.

  • Provide necessary leadership to ensure that clinical services are provided in accordance with state/federal regulatory and accreditation standards as they pertain to infection prevention and patient safety, inclusive of maintaining relevant policies/procedures.

  • Engage and coach others to identify trends and patterns, facilitate improvement, and foster a culture of safety.

  • Support project management activities and/or work with project managers on project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.

  • Provide organizational support for medical staff committees related to patient safety and infection prevention.

  • Represent DRH and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement DUHS-wide safety initiatives.

  • Coordinate DRH's local response to emerging threats in collaboration with executive leadership team members.

  • Perform other related duties, administrative or otherwise, incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in a health-related or business field is required. Masters' Degree Preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years clinical or healthcare work experience, including 3 years of experience within infection prevention, patient safety, and/or clinical quality.

Experience can be supplemented with Master's degree with a Masters being equivalent to two years of experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Nursing or other direct clinical care experience

  • Management experience

  • Infection Prevention experience

  • Performance Improvement experience

  • Project management experience

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Preferred- Certified in Infection Control (CIC), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), and/or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to serve as a facilitator and change agent.

  • Ability to navigate challenging situations and complex issues with an objective approach employing humble inquiry and leadership skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentation and teaching skills.

  • Ability to communicate with customers/staff with diverse backgrounds.

  • Sound analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to manage numerous diverse projects simultaneously through effective priority setting, efficient use of time, organization.

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulations related to patient safety and infection prevention.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Computer literacy.
