SUMMARY

The Program Manager, Divisional Publications for Anesthesia, Critical Care & Pain Medicine, is responsible for directing projects and services that include consulting on and developing strategies, plans, and products to advance divisional communication to internal audiences; in doing so, will independently analyze issues, identify solutions, implement solutions in collaboration with partners, monitor results and make changes, as appropriate.

Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine has a Program Manager, Division Publication opportunity. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field and at least six years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field, to include one-year experience in healthcare, science or academic field.

Experience managing, reviewing, editing website and social media is a plus.

Key Functions

Direct Divisional Communications Projects

Expertly and successfully develops, manages, and measures division-wide projects in Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine (DACCPM) to advance the strategies and goals of the division head and leadership team. Identifies divisional story ideas and follows projects through to production, assuming the responsibility and integrity of the projects.

Independently researches other health care industry publications for current practices to inform DACCPM communications strategy. Consults and advises on departmental and other cross-divisional and cross-service projects as directed by DACCPM leadership. Serves as a resource and team lead for departmental communications personnel.

Production of Communication Material

Directs and develops content - feature articles, emails, proposals, presentations, manuals, memos, videos, fliers, etc. - intended to increase the visibility and awareness division activities to internal audiences. Includes managing DACCPM emails and online divisional content (News, Accolades, Scientific Events, and New and Promoted Faculty) on intranet storefront or Teams sites.

Liaison for external website updates and directing production of materials that are cross-service and cross-divisional. Demonstrates clear, consistent writing and editing in all work products. Exhibits command and practice of Associated Press Style and MD Anderson style (i.e. editorial and brand standards followed on all materials). Has routine meetings with Strategic Communications to share division content for consideration in institutional publications and in external communications. Provide support to the division research team in communicating information to the division and institution leadership.

Serves as communications point-of-contact for Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine committees.

Directs communication initiatives for division committees and short-term task forces to assist in the implementation, or development of committee goals and action items; includes developing communication and education materials, emails and communication plans.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Six years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field, to include one-year experience in healthcare, science or academic field. With preferred degree, four years of required experience to include one-year experience in healthcare, science or academic field.
