Provides on-site management, support and logistical guidance to daily operations of support program services to oncology patients and family members at Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC) in Lebanon and other affiliate sites and collaborates on such activities with clinical and administrative directors within DCC and across D-H to integrate programs into patient care. Coordinates with clinical leader of survivorship program to support management and development of survivorship services.

Responsibilities

Administrative

Provides on-site management, support and logistical assistance to daily operations of site, program offerings, support services, visitor/patient relations, and telephone response. In accordance with D-H Public Affairs and DCC marketing plans, and in collaboration with DCC leadership, Hematology-Oncology and Radiation-Oncology departments, responsible for initiating, planning, execution and follow-through of off-site and on-campus programs, support program promotional events and other activities. Facilitates or assists with programs as directed and credentialed including support group facilitation. Responsible for hiring and supervision of personnel involved in cancer support programs. Working in Collaboration with DCC Administration and Director of Finances, responsible for budget creation and management for multidisciplinary programs each fiscal year. Responsible for initiating projects that may advance the goals of a positive patient experience. Collaborates with leadership on projects that measure and evaluate support program impact on the patient experience. Collaborates with Volunteer Services in Lebanon and affiliate locations for multiple DCC volunteer programs in Lebanon and affiliate locations.

Marketing of Support Services

Works with DH Public Affairs, and DCC leadership to develop and implement advertisement and promotional programs and announcements via the web, radio and print. Oversees on-site programs that offer support service experiences to the public and other medical center staff with the goal of increasing awareness of programs. Directs staff and assigned designer in the creation of marketing brochures and calendars. Contributes written copy as needed. Oversight of Cancer Center Patient and Public Information on Support Programs Collaborates with American Cancer Society (ACS) to develop/provide appropriate programs, to obtain ACS publications for patient education purposes and to utilize current ACS web-based resource tools. Partners with Dartmouth College students in the Center for Service-managed CAPS program to provide direct services to cancer patients in our community. Initiates, plans and oversees presentations and presentational materials for clinical staff and for cancer care consumers, informing and educating them on patient and family-centered support activities and programs. Responsible for purchase, inventory, and display of all printed patient education materials for Hematology Oncology and Radiation-Oncology waiting areas. Works with physicians and nurses and DCC leadership to ensure that display materials are current and of high caliber.

Additional Duties and Projects

Functions as a contributing member of the program management team, attending management meetings as directed and contributing to special assignments, completing on or before the deadline. Assists program management with special projects and contract deliverables. Participates on boards and committees as required. Collaborates with DCC leadership staff to maintain the quality of current patient and family services or to introduce new services. Supports program policy guidelines, creating consistent onboarding policies for contracted POI in all affiliate locations in conjunction with appropriate D-H leadership. Collaborates with providers and creative arts staff on IRB approved studies and manages funding. Serves as an administrative lead, partnered with a clinical colleague, to develop, promote, and monitor programs related to survivorship. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Social Services, Counseling, Education, Administration, or the equivalent.

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • Five (5) years of experience in program development, management, or medical support services required. Familiarity with cancer terminology and cancer resources in a medical setting preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience with employees or volunteers preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact appropriately with cancer patients and their family members, D-H staff and the public.

  • Understanding of medical terminology, particularly as related to cancer.

  • Ability to plan and implement program initiatives and to collaborate with other professionals to identify and meet needs.

  • Understanding of JCAHO, HIPPA, and OSHA guidelines.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Strong networking skills and ability to develop and apply effective understanding of the clinical research, education and service functions of the Cancer Center and D-H.

  • Strong understanding and network of local, regional, and national resources of patient-centered supportive care.

  • Initiative, resourcefulness, judgment and ability to independently prioritize and organize work.

  • Ability to solve problems and take the appropriate actions regarding complex issues and situations.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge or ability to learn data processing and other computer software.
