Overview and Qualifications
Program Guides support the program in a wide variety of ways.
Program Guides often work directly with participants (impaired adults) during the majority of their time, but may also provide program support with non-direct care tasks. All 3 levels of Program Guides are responsible for assisting participants with personal care needs (showers, incontinence, emptying catheter, dressing, etc.) and for assisting with snack and meals as needed. See attached chart for specific tasks associated with each Guide level.
Required Education:High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Education:At least 2 years of college credit; BLS (CPR/First Aid)
Required License:Medication Technician certification required if performing such associated tasks. Cosmetologist license required if performing such associated tasks. Carolina Driver's License required if performing driving tasks.
Preferred Experience:Working with impaired adults and/or in the human service field. Working with individuals with cognitive impairment. Working in behavioral health.
