Summary:

  • This is an in-person position

Directs and oversees youth development and family programs, which includes, but is not limited to youth sports and wellness, recreation and enrichment, Kids Club/Kids Zone, family activities, and teen programs. This position will lead and develop a dynamic team of youth development professionals, playing a key role in ensuring planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans are provided to participants. You will lead a safe, high-quality youth and family department and supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers, including hiring and training, maintaining required staff/child ratios and conducting regular staff meetings. This role plays an important part of helping maintain professional relationships with families, facility personnel, and the community.

Hiring range: $67,724.50 - $75,504/annually

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Directs and manages the development, operations, and growth of assigned program areas. Develops and manages the budgets related to the position. Meets fiscal objectives. Closely monitors revenue and expense. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises assigned staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned programs. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs. Provides leadership and support for branch management team, annual fundraising campaign, and volunteer committees as assigned. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs in accordance with branch marketing plans. Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA best practices and any other applicable standards. Ensures high quality programs through program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff. Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment. Other duties as assigned.

This job operates in various environments ranging from a professional office, as well as other branch-based and external environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Hours Expected to Work:

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days vary by program schedule. Frequent weekend and evening hours will be required as job duties dictate.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • 21 years of age or older.

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Five or more years of experience working with children.

  • One year or more of supervisory experience.

  • Strong customer service skills, responding to multiple questions via phone, email and in person. Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict.

  • Strong computer skills and experience working with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

  • Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as fax machines, copiers and phone systems.

  • Current state approved first-aid certification*

  • Current state approved infant/child (or community if school aged) CPR certification*

  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment).

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • College degree. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
