The Online ABSN Program Director is responsible for providing leadership for the operation and assessment of the Online ABSN program in the School of Nursing, Business, Education, and Health Sciences. Operating under the auspices of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Program Director of the Online ABSN program will oversee program planning and operations, guides curriculum development and implementation, and supervises faculty in program-related activities. The Program Director is selected in a collegial fashion by the School (Faculty By-Laws, 2008), and reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing. The Program Director must actively support the mission of the college by working with faculty, staff, and students to share in our core values - truth, compassion, justice, partnership, and community.

Responsibilities

Academic responsibilities

  • Coordinates evaluation of academic activities and services within the assigned program.

  • In partnership with school leadership and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, facilitates curriculum development.

  • Assists with College Catalog and Student Handbook development/maintenance.

  • Oversees ATI/NCLEX prep programming for online ABSN students.

  • Performs advising and teaching roles as assigned.

Governance responsibilities

  • Participates in Community Advisory Board meetings; communicates directly with community members.

  • Provides leadership for Division Heads in the following activities:

  • implements site development for student clinical experiences in collaboration with Evidence in Motion (EIM) partners.

  • collaborates with EIM in the recruitment, development, and retention of full and part-time faculty to meet clinical and theory course demands.

  • orients new faculty to their role.

  • Collaborates with appropriate faculty and staff to plan assessment activities, using data for program quality improvement.

  • Represents the School on policy-making bodies as defined by the Faculty Association by-laws and serves on appropriate councils and committees.

Development responsibilities

  • Facilitates faculty and staff development efforts.

  • Works closely with student Advisors within the School of Nursing in tracking student retention and progress as appropriate.

Finance responsibilities

  • Provides input into budget preparation.

  • Assists Dean in allocating and monitoring the utilization of operational resources to all programs within the School of Nursing.

Personnel and supervisory responsibilities

  • Oversees student service functions (admissions, advising) for online ABSN students.

  • Participates in the recruitment and employment of academic and administrative program personnel in collaboration with EIM.

  • Strengthens and promotes efforts to attract and retain a highly qualified and diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Assumes an active role in the oversight of faculty orientation in the School.

  • Oversees accountability in faculty completing student health records and clinical evaluations.

  • Collaborates with Associate Dean and Assistant Dean on course offerings and sequence.

Job Qualifications

Necessary Education or Work Experience

  • MSN or higher degree.

  • Experience in working with faculty development and working with administrative personnel.

  • Possess public and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through collaborative decision-making and ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Record of academic success in teaching and scholarship.

  • Experience integrating communication, technology, and information resources into teaching and other operations of the college.

  • Demonstrated success in attracting and retaining novice faculty, faculty of color, and other under-represented groups.
