Qualifications Required

Associate's degree required in Culinary Arts or a related business field; Bachelor's degree preferred or completion within five years in a related business field. Serve Safe certification required or willingness to complete upon hire. Familiarity with certification through American Culinary Federation to facilitate future program accreditation preferred.

General Summary

Plans, organizes, administers, and evaluates Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts (HMRM) instructional program. Supervises faculty and staff; teaches and advises students; and provides oversight for budget.

Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with college policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Leads and collaborates with faculty and staff to provide services to students in support of student success.

Monitors and improves instructional effectiveness; e.g. establishes program goals and objectives; researches and recommends new techniques/concepts; provides guidance to faculty and/or selects, develops and maintains instructional materials; conducts program reviews; meets regulations/requirements of accrediting and regulatory bodies, etc.

Recommends for hire, orients, trains, directs, and evaluates performance of and, when necessary, recommends discipline or discharge of subordinate personnel. Assists subordinates with difficult employee and/or student relations problems.

Determines faculty course assignments; analyzes faculty workload and determines workload modifications when necessary.

Provides and/or oversees student academic advising; e.g., goal setting, registration, application for graduation, employment search.

Provides and/or coordinates instruction for students, staff, and other professionals; organizes and/or teaches courses, community and continuing education seminars, and student cooperative education/internship opportunities.

Oversees development and reviews the following guidelines for alcohol services and storage, weekly grocery and supply lists according to supply needs of students and instructors, and supply inventory including check in and storage of supplies as they arrive. Works with faculty and students to monitor and secure all food, equipment, and alcohol inventory.

Coordinates activities with advisory board members and other vital members of the community to stay connected to the industry including recruiting new members and attending advisory committee meetings.

Co-sponsors the program student club, helping with their fund-raising events and catering events, volunteer and charity efforts, and planning and accompanying them on field trips.

55% administrative release time and 45% instruction for the HMRM program.
