Summary: The Program Director will work with the Director of the Triangle Center for Evolutionary Medicine ( TriCEM )to determine & set program initiatives and strategic visions. The Program Director will also manage and coordinate financial development and administration of multiple programs professionally, effectively, and with a strong eye toward the scientific and communication components.

Job Description

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute operational and programmatic decisions that impact the successful achievement of TriCEM objectives.

  • Develop and maintain TriCEM's social media and web presence.

  • Organize and execute TriCEM program activities and events held on Duke campus, and other Triangle locations including TriCEM breakfasts and symposia, Evolutionary Medicine Summer Institute (EMSI),and the Darwin Day Roadshow.

  • Oversee, coordinate, and execute public events and other related programs; recommend, develop, and coordinate new ideas and concepts for program themes, materials and resources to supplement, expand or replace existing program components.

  • Development and oversight of new summer research internship program available to triangle graduate students. Evaluation of submitted research proposals (including organizing peer review) and recommendation of awards.

  • Identifying new internal& external funding opportunities from multiple types of sources, and then coordinate all aspects of grant application preparation, coordination, and administration, including extensive writing and budgeting preparations.

  • Coordinate public relations activities to include preparation of brochures, bulletins, and events. Publish, develop and implement other communis, and other promotional materials to describe the program's academic goal cations vehicles such as newsletters, ads, and flyers to include compiling news and educational articles of local interest; write and edit text and coordinate printing and mailing or distribution. Develop plans and schedules for release of publicity materials.

  • Coordinate and run the Club EvMed online seminar series, including managing all aspects of recruiting speakers and participants, the Zoom call, and the online presence of the series.

  • Select, train, and supervise program assistants, graduate students, and volunteers recruited to assist with program outreach events and activities.

  • Serve as Duke liaison with other triangle universities(NCCU, NCSU, & UNC-Chapel Hill) to coordinate joint events and funding opportunities and to provide information on activities, policies, &procedures of the TriCEM program

  • Prepare budgetary recommendations for fiscal year requirements; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds for TriCEM support and internal awards.

  • Attend conferences relevant to the mission of TriCEM, and represent TriCEM and our mission at those conferences. Attend talks and presentations relevant to your interests and to obtain additional training in the form of short courses at Duke (e.g., in management) or academic workshops(e.g., in writing or statistical analysis),to be determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience.
