Position Title: Program Director, Doctor of Occupational Therapy (Minnesota)

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Director of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program at the level of Associate or Professor. As the inaugural program director, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and establishing the program.

This role presents a unique opportunity for visionary leadership and oversees the OTD program, including lab immersions in Minneapolis, MN. Our accelerated two-year OTD program is a dynamic blend of online and on-campus activities, allowing faculty members to reside remotely from Augustana University. However, OTD faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Sioux Falls, SD, or Minneapolis, MN, for designated periods each trimester.

Qualified candidates must have a terminal academic doctorate in a relevant discipline and at least eight years of full-time Occupational Therapy experience, including at least three years as core faculty in an ACOTE-accredited entry-level OT education program. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience, leadership in higher education, established scholarship activities, demonstrated community service, and a willingness to innovate and explore new teaching strategies in hybrid learning. The position commences on August 1, 2024. Join us in shaping the future of occupational therapy education at Augustana University.

Optimal candidates should possess an understanding of higher education and contemporary occupational therapy practice; knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of occupational therapy; and activity in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels. In addition, excellent communication and strong computer skills are required to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format.

Essential Tasks and Functions:

Candidates must demonstrate the following knowledge, skill, and ability or be able to explain and demonstrate that faculty members can perform the job's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skill, and ability.

  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the Core Values of the Occupational Therapy profession;

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and expertise in the area of teaching;

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both written and orally, both online and in-person;

  • Demonstrates the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including students, administration, faculty, and staff;

  • Demonstrates the ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality (FERPA);

  • Demonstrates the ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities in the OTD Program.

Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
