Job Title: Program Director and Core Faculty, Masters of Science in Counseling

Position Type: Full-time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours worked Per Week: Approximately 40-50

POSITION SUMMARY:

This faculty member will serve as Program Director and core faculty member in the Masters of Science in Counseling program in the College of Adult and Graduate Studies (CAGS). Additional responsibilities include serving on university committees, supporting departmental functions necessary for overall program assessment, strategic planning, accreditation, related administrative duties, and student advising.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

UNIVERSITY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with university academic policies.

  • Teach, govern, conduct classes, perform administrative functions, and other academic duties.

  • Attend chapel services on a weekly basis.

  • Attend the President's Faculty and Staff meetings.

  • Attend and participate in strategic planning events.

  • Comply with human resources training expectations.

  • Comply with Biblical standards of conduct in the office and classroom settings.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach the required 18 credit hours per academic year.

  • Attend regularly scheduled University faculty meetings.

  • Participate in selected or assigned faculty-staff committees.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach, on a full-time basis, in the School of Behavioral Sciences and Counseling.

  • Assess student performance using appropriate rubrics or other forms of assessment.

  • Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to promote students' critical thinking skills, effective teaching-learning strategies, and student engagement in the learning process.

  • Teach practicum and internship courses.

PROGRAM CURRICULA

  • Maintain program and course integrity and rigor by developing instructional materials consistent with course objectives and program outcomes.

  • Comply with assessment and evaluation policies and requirements related to students, courses, faculty, and programs.

  • Align program goals and student learning outcomes in courses with state licensure requirements in mind.

  • Assist in the data collection and presentation of Program Reviews.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

  • Work supportively and cooperatively with the School Chair and as part of a team to coordinate and support the Masters of Counseling.

  • Actively engage in promoting student retention, address student issues, and promote a conducive learning environment.

  • Promote and maintain state licensure requirements through the Masters of Counseling.

  • Assist in evaluating entrance requirements and orientation of students into the Masters of Counseling Program.

  • Create and implement ways for students to know their Program Director.

  • Support and assist the Director of Practicum and Supervision experiences in the orientation of students entering field work experiences.

  • Provide Program-focused instructional training to new full-time or part-time instructors.

  • Assign instructors to courses.

  • Implement a systematic process of observing and monitoring instructor performance.

  • Hold regularly scheduled faculty meetings with instructors.

  • Hold monthly informational meetings with University Supervisors.

  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Program Chair and team colleagues.

  • Cultivate an open-door policy by providing office hours for student consultations on a weekly basis.

  • Coordinate regular opportunities to assist students with problematic academic or program-related issues.

  • Review student evaluations from sites and follow-up on performance deficits.

  • Participate in Open Houses and New Students orientation gatherings.

PROGRAM OPERATIONS

  • Support and assist the Director of Practicum and Supervision and the Coordinator of Career Development in implementing systematic operations and training opportunities of site supervisors (face-to-face and online).

  • Review and approve/deny grade change requests in consultation with the Program Chair.

  • Consult with and work supportively/harmoniously with the Program Chair and team members.

  • Keep daily office hours on campus.

PROFESSIONAL-PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in appropriate professional development and renewal activities related to counseling.

  • Maintain certification and professional licensing.

  • Maintain expertise and currency in the disciplines.

  • Sustain engagement in professional service and advocacy in counseling.

  • Sustain engagement in scholarly activities and/or research in counseling.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and should possess the following:

  • Expertise in the discipline with strong organizational and teaching skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to network with state and national peers.

  • Ability to work as part of a team to coordinate and support programs within the School and the University.

  • Ability to utilize appropriate, contemporary technologies and best practices in teaching.

  • Adherence to the Christian objectives and policies of the University.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctorate in counseling or counselor education.

  • Experience teaching in higher education is strongly preferred.

  • Professional practical experience in counseling is required.

  • A current Professional Counselor License or equivalent Clinical Mental Health License is required.

  • State approved Supervisor or equivalent in the state of licensure

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Must have current knowledge and advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Must be able to utilize the university online platform.

  • Must be able to utilize the university systems.
