The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub ("CZ Biohub) is an independent nonprofit medical research organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub supports scientific research to cure, prevent or manage disease in our childrens lifetime. Our mission is to understand the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease and to develop new technologies which will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. We harness the power and possibility of collaboration to drive discovery and set the standard for open, impactful science. For more information, please visit

The Biohub has an intramural research program with 17 groups focused on technology development, cell biology (the Cell Atlas Initiative), and infectious disease, and an extramural research program that provides unrestricted funding to approximately 100 faculty members at our three partner universities (Biohub Investigators) to pursue their most exciting, risky, and innovative ideas. Our Biohub investigators are drawn from a diverse range of disciplines, including fundamental and clinical biomedical sciences, the physical sciences, engineering, computer science, statistics, and chemical biology.

In addition to our intramural research and the extramural Biohub Investigator program, the Biohub has just launched a new Physician-Scientist Fellowship program with the goal of providing physicians-in-training at Stanford and UCSF with a new track that will allow them to gain experience in lab or computational research. Fellows will have the opportunity to conduct biomedical research for 2236 months in the laboratory of a faculty mentor at one of CZ Biohub's three collaborating campuses or in one of the intramural research labs at CZ Biohub. Eligibility is limited to MDs who do not have and are not pursuing a Ph.D. and are currently enrolled full-time in a medical residency or clinical fellowship program at Stanford or UCSF. In addition to providing research experience and mentoring, the program will include a curriculum taught in a peer-to-peer fashion, with additional invited speakers, focused on biomedical and clinical research topics selected by the fellows, as well as topics such as manuscript and grant writing, lab administration, career development, and ethics.

We are seeking to hire a Program Coordinator / Program Manager to help with the development and management of the Physician-Scientist Fellowship program and to assist with the administration of the Biohub Investigator program. The successful applicant will be based full-time at Biohub, as well as meeting with administrative counterparts at Stanford, UCSF, and UC Berkeley. A key part of the role includes establishing ongoing relationships with the program directors for the residency and clinical fellowship programs at Stanford and UCSF to facilitate coordination, information sharing, and problem solving regarding Fellows currently in the CZ Biohub Physician-Scientist Fellowship program, in preparation for future competitions to select new Fellows, and during the review and onboarding of new Fellows. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the Fellowship program, as detailed below, and will assist with routine administration and special projects for the Biohub Investigator Program. You will also work closely with the Co-Directors of the CZ Biohub Physician-Scientist Fellowship program to help with the planning, implementation, and refinement of the curriculum for the program.

  • Schedule and organize on-going and special events for the Fellowship program, including weekly seminar-discussions and research-in-progress talks
  • Schedule and organize periodic meetings between the Fellows, Co-Directors, and other program advisors for check-in discussions regarding Fellows ongoing research and career mentoring
  • Serve as a key point-of-contact and resource to address Fellows questions and concerns and to help build a strong sense of community
  • Establish ongoing relationships with the program directors for the residency and clinical fellowship programs at Stanford and UCSF to promote awareness of the Fellowship program, to address questions and resolve issues as they arise, and to gather financial information and coordinate the funds transfers covering Fellows salaries, benefits, and stipends
  • Work closely with the Co-Directors and other program advisors on short- and long-term planning for the program, including the planning, implementation, and refinement of the curriculum for the program
  • Assist with organizing and running annual competitions to select each new cohort of Fellows
  • Help to plan and implement assessments for tracking the impact of the Fellowship program
  • Help with routine management and special projects related to the Biohub Investigator program, including:
    • Help with same-day arrangements for the Biohub Investigator meetings
    • Track investigator compliance with award obligations, including meeting attendance and the requirement to deposit manuscripts as preprints at the time of submission for publication
    • Help with information gathering, information dissemination, and special projects
    • Assist with event planning

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; some graduate training or graduate degree strongly preferred
  • Independent and self-directed with strong time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented; strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills
  • Good communications skills, including excellent writing, proofreading, and copy-editing skills

Preferred Qualifications
