Position Summary

The Program Coordinator for the Placement & Testing Center resides at the front desk, and provides responsive, courteous, and professional customer service while relaying detailed information regarding placement and testing functions provided at the center for prospective and continuing students, faculty, staff and the general public. This position will administer placement, program entry, instructional, proctored and computer-based testing.

5% King County Premium Pay will be added on top of the posted salary

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Position Responsibilities

Customer Service Duties:

  • Provide inclusive, equitable and professional customer service in-person and online, over the phone, and via email to prospective and continuing students, faculty, staff, and community members as to placement and testing and general college services, policies and procedures

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the services provided by departments with Student Affairs and Instructional areas in order to respond to and/ or refer inquiries appropriately and accurately

  • Actively listen and exercise independent judgment and critical thinking skills to determine the needs of students and others served

  • Maintain order and composure in stressful conditions and professionally diffuse potentially escalating situations and people

Placement & Testing Duties:

  • Administer placement, program entry, instructional, proctored and computer-based testing

  • Maintain a general knowledge of Green River College's, and other colleges in the SBCTC system, placement policies

  • Evaluate student's placement documents using GRC's placement policies and Placement Reciprocity

  • Accurately maintain files, exams, and databases; appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information, while maintaining compliance with FERPA regulations

  • Consistently maintain a secure testing environment to ensure testing integrity by enforcing established procedures and policies including, but not limited to, identification, electronic devices, room monitoring, etc.

  • Complete work tasks as part of a team and independently, including taking initiative

  • Troubleshoot technology issues in collaboration with campus and vendor representatives

  • Perform related duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree and three years of experience in teaching, training, counseling or testing; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to express ideas and information in language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the recipient

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to multi-task in a high-volume setting

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: specifically, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams and Outlook, internet resource navigation, and general office equipment use

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Ability to fluently speak another language in addition to English (Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Somali, Russian, or Ukrainian preferred)

  • Previous experience with PeopleSoft (ctcLink)

  • Previous experience as a Pearson VUE Test Administrator

  • Previous experience in Washington Community and Technical Colleges

Special Requirements, Licenses and Certifications:

Successful candidates must be able to become a Pearson VUE Test Administrator (TA) within 60 days (about 2 months) of hire. The TA exam is free and must be completed annually. Individuals must wait six (6) months after completing any testing administered through Pearson VUE prior to becoming a TA, and must wait six (6) months after being a TA to take a Pearson VUE exam. Working Conditions:

  • Must have the ability to sit for prolonged period of time at a desk/computer workstation

  • Must have the ability to move freely about the front desk and all testing areas to retrieve and file materials, set up and assist students at computers, and monitor the testing rooms

  • Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions

  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments

  • Work in an office setting with frequent interruptions and a high volume of in-person customer interaction

  • May need to carry, lift or move equipment/supplies up to 30 lbs
