Program Overview

This program offers interim housing to homeless individuals residing in encampments. The program offers homeless individuals a safe place to stay and support while they build income, skills, and seek permanent housing.

Position Summary

Under supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator provides direct supportive services and supervision to homeless individuals in our hotel based interim housing program. This position provides back-up for site-level administration and assists with housing retention activities. Responsibilities include program intakes, assisting with activities of daily living, HMIS data entry, assessing participants to determine barriers to housing, assist with completing documents, and providing referrals to various community services including substance abuse treatment, mental health services, primary health care, benefits advocacy, and veteran's services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Model best practices for assisting program participants that align with Insight Housing's professional standards and ensure excellent customer service. Best practices include but are not limited to low barrier access, harm reduction, trauma informed care, non-violent crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and conflict management/de-escalation techniques.

  • Assist Program Manager in the oversight of facility health and safety related functions such as reporting maintenance issues and conducting safety drills. Provide oversight of site hospitality in the absence of Program Manager.

  • Assist the Program Manager with the training and ongoing coaching of Resident Advocates. Includes assisting with on-boarding of new Resident Advocates. Provide feedback to Program Manager on Resident Advocate performance and evaluations.

  • Provide information and recommendations to the Program Manager regarding program evaluation and modifications to better meet participant needs, community needs, and the agency mission.

  • Assist with HMIS data entry and program intakes in an accurate and timely manner. Creating intake packets and participant charts. Ensure quality control on program documentation and reporting. Inform Program Manager when there are documenting/reporting issues.

  • Take the lead in conducting (at least) bi-weekly room inspections including submitting maintenance requests and working in partnership with participants to keep their rooms within health and safety standards.

  • Provide conflict/cohabitation mediation between participants as needed.

  • Provide supportive services including picking-up, preparing, and serving meals, stripping beds, cleaning and organizing, laundry, updating participant housing board, restocking cleaning supplies and properly storing food following health and safety guidelines after serving meals.

  • Assist participants with and enable them to manage activities of daily living including proper bathing and hygiene practices and maintaining room cleanliness.

  • Provide crisis intervention and advocate on behalf of participants as needed.

  • Attend and participate in all meetings and training courses as assigned.

  • Complete and submit timesheets in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Work within the framework of Insight Housing's Code of Conduct.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school or GED, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Two years of experience working with the homeless population or related fields preferred.

  • Strong hospitality and customer service skills.

  • Commitment to serving homeless individuals and Veterans. Have a clear understanding of PTSD, impacts of trauma, alcohol and drug dependency and other mental health.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, internet, and calendaring applications. Experience with HMIS data entry strongly preferred. Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and crisis intervention skills with a can do and flexible attitude.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multitask, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to maintain professional conduct, attitude, and appearance at all times.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to receive and maintain criminal records clearance.

  • May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see clearly.

  • May be occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.

  • May be required to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
