Posting Summary

Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Program Coordinator I for the Geophysics for Environmental Management Students (GEMS) project in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN). Reporting to the Principal Investigator, this Program Coordinator I is responsible for the administration and coordination of the GEMS project.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:

  • Coordinating day-to-day operations for the project.

  • Coordinating all aspects of the project including GEMS programming, curriculum development, events and meetings, and coordination of and with participants, and related programs and academic and government partners.

  • Providing operational support to project leadership, participating in project decisions, program development and implementation, and evaluation.

  • Maintaining and supporting the use of department geophysical instrumentation.

  • Conducting research in near surface geophysics in collaboration with GEMS participants, under the direction of the PI and co-PI.

  • Planning and organizing annual project meetings and other events.

  • Collecting, maintaining, and providing program information/drafts for funder reports.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships within Rutgers and with academic partners and collaborating laboratories.

Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of coordination, organization, report analysis, writing, research, and promotion/outreach.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, strong computer literacy, the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University community and with external academic and government partners.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, stakeholder focused environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred. Experience with and/or knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines preferred.

  • Knowledge of and expertise in near surface geophysics methods preferred.

Equipment Utilized

  • Position regularly uses MS Office Suite, Cornerstone, RU Marketplace, ECRT, RAPSS, and knows or will learn any and all systems the University uses for grant accounting, submission, and administration; purchasing and procurement; travel and expense reimbursement; facilities and space scheduling and management, event management, communications, website and social media maintenance and updates, and all required geophysical and know or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position now or in the future, including any materials, equipment, software, or databases required by academic partners, government laboratory partners, and funders.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Requires the coordination of and collaboration with multiple stakeholders including RU-N faculty, staff, students, administrators, and academic and government laboratory partners; and an understanding of the culture and policies within the Department, at SASN, RU-N, and RU, as well as in other academic and government settings.

  • Fast-paced, deadline driven, stakeholder-focused, collaborative environment.

  • Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required.

  • Travel to events (including overnight/out of state) and academic partner and student field sites will be required.

  • Physical work involving field-based geophysical data acquisition required.
