Description of Department:

The Department of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL) is a newly developed unit that seeks to foster a highly engaged, and active student body. Through innovative programs, co-curricular experiences, and collaborative staff-student partnerships, SEL plays a vital role in helping students connect to campus so that they can achieve their full potential as students and as graduates of SUNY Oswego. Situated within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA), Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL) accomplishes its work through leadership development; civic engagement; support for student organizations including fraternities, sororities, and clubs; and by offering engaging, fun, and educational activities and programs such as the annual ALANA Conference, I Am Oz Speaker Series, and MLK Event.

The Department of Campus Life at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Program Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life.

In an ongoing commitment to staff well-being, the Program Coordinator has the opportunity to work a partial remote schedule of 4 days in office and 1 day remotely per work week during the academic year. Flexible remote work time during breaks in the academic schedule are also offered.

Date of Appointment: As soon as possible

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Advise Fraternity and Sorority Governing Councils; Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council (NPC), Greek Local Women's Association (GLWA), Multicultural Council (MC), and Unified Greek Council (UGC)

  • Develop strategies that support achievement of the departments learning outcomes. Design and assess learning outcomes while also identifying areas for continued improvement

  • Develop and deliver mandatory New Member Education Programs including, but not limited to risk prevention/harm reduction, hazing, alcohol and other drugs, Title IX, and accountability

  • Design and communicate the New Member Education timeline and requirements

  • Work with chapters to maintain accurate organization rosters

  • Work with campus partners in Dean of Students, Title IX, Event and Conference Services, etc. to ensure that student organizations meet the Colleges requirements to be active

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the new chapter expansion process

  • Maintain active lines of communication with campus, local and national chapter advisors

  • Provide training and resources for campus advisors

  • Assist the Assistant Director for Student Engagement in the design and delivery of risk management training for all FSC active chapters

  • Ensure all potential new members (PNMs) meet college GPA and standing criteria for joining a fraternity or sorority

  • Oversee the Standards of Excellence evaluation process for all FSC chapters

  • Support community, council, and chapter-specific events including, but not limited to recruitment/intake, Greek Week

  • Compile and generate chapter and community grade reports

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree at time of appointment
  • 1 year of professional experience in higher education or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or a related field

  • A minimum of 1-3 years working experience in student affairs or a related field

  • Prior experience in Fraternity and Sorority Life, and/or student activities

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through co-curricular programs

  • Demonstrated understanding of how to increase student sense of belonging and engagement

  • Effective communication skills
