Program Coordinator - Service Learning

SALARY: $1,390.8 - $1,564/month on-call for a 16 hour per week schedule

LOCATION: Lynnwood, Washington

DESCRIPTION:

The Service Learning Program Coordinator¿s primary focus of this position is to perform an array of functions to provide support for service-learning courses and coordinate service learning events at the college and in the community. The coordinator will independently advise students, staff, program participants and/or the public regarding the service learning program content, policies, procedures and activities. This position will coordinate, monitor, maintain, and initiate service learning projects, alternative breaks, and National Days of Service. This position will have extensive involvement with students, staff, the public and/or agencies in carrying out service learning program activities, and coordinate, schedule and monitor program activities to determine consistency with program goals.

This is a permanent part-time classified position reporting to the Program Manager for the Center for Student Engagement and Leadership.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates, organizes and oversees service-learning related programming and service delivery; plans, implements and coordinates programs, events and activities to develop a culture of community involvement and service throughout the Edmonds College community.

  • Actively researches potential service learning opportunities for faculty and students; acts as a liaison with local employers, government agencies and community groups in order to build employer relationships and funding opportunities; maintains a database of internships and volunteer opportunities announcements.

  • Conduct and lead alternative breaks and other service projects in the community.

  • Lead guided reflections after service projects.

  • Transporting students to and from service projects using a 12-passenger van.

  • Track and report student service hours; coordinates class credits. Maintain and coordinate student volunteer hours and tracking.

  • Participate in meetings and assist the program manager in determining service learning needs, share feedback and suggestions on ways to improve the program outcomes.

  • Assists with the recruitment and training of faculty to integrate student learning objectives into course curriculum; coordinates professional development opportunities.

  • Support the Student Services department in efforts related to student success and engagement.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree, OR a high school diploma and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential job functions in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

  • At least one year of experience working in administrative support and advisory experience in college-level student activities or a closely related environment.

  • Holds a valid WA driver¿s license and has a good driving background

  • Knowledge of G-Suite

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not a native language.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.

  • Knowledge of Service learning practices.

  • Volunteer development and management methods and techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds with a focus on customer service, public relations and community outreach.

  • Experience in recordkeeping and creating or managing data.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

50% of work is typically performed in an office setting and will be required to be completed on campus. 50% of work will be leading service projects out in the community and may include overnight trips and exposure to outdoor environments and weather conditions. The employee will also drive a 12-passenger van as part of this position. This position works normal business hours. However, hours are occasionally dictated by education programs which may be occasionally scheduled during evenings and weekends.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a permanent classified position with an on-call schedule for up to 16 hours per week.

COMPENSATION:

Salary is Range 40, $1,390.8 - $1,564/month on-call for a 16 hour per week schedule, with progressive increases to $1,852.8. This position is not eligible for benefits. Paid PTO/Sick leave on an accrual basis.
