Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, the Program Coordinator provides overall support to the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE), which serves the entire university community and strives to help writers achieve long-term improvement, confidence and independence. The Program Coordinator contributes to the development and implementation of the CWE's strategic mission and goals and ensures compliance with policies and standards for writing center services. The Program Coordinator supervises evening operations and staff, serves as manager when the Director and Assistant Director are unavailable, and initiates outreach activities with various campus partners. The Program Coordinator manages staff research projects, develops the website, designs workshops, assists with curriculum development, and oversees other critical areas of daily operations.

Position requires 25 hours per week.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete required training for certification by the College Reading and Learning Association and oversee renewal process.

  • Serve on leadership team for all CWE training activities, seminars, and professional development meetings.

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and interviewing of CWE staff.

  • Monitor student employees and staff for adherence to CWE policies and CRLA standards.

  • Identify potential problems in the CWE, troubleshoot, and communicate with the Director for solutions.

  • Conduct research on writing center scholarship as well as theories of teaching and learning; present findings to Director and CWE staff.

  • Design, organize, and manage CWE workshops for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Assist with event planning.

  • Advertise and promote CWE activities to all constituencies; attend campus events as needed.

  • Create new initiatives for the CWE's participation in campus life.

  • Initiate contact and follow through with community outreach programs.

  • Represent the CWE to the public as needed.

  • Perform as a writing consultant as needed

  • Develop materials for internal and external use.

  • Gather, compile, and proof materials and data for reporting purposes; maintain confidentiality

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree in composition and rhetoric or a related field.

  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching writing or providing programmatic/curricular support in a directly related area.

  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to design, develop, and present workshop materials.

  • Experience in and knowledge of writing center or tutoring work.

  • Expertise in writing, editing, and proofreading.

  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to learn new applications.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience and success in an environment that teaches and strengthens writing skills.

  • Proficiency in WC Online, Canvas, and other software applications.

  • Coursework in Writing Studies.

  • Experience in higher education administration.
