Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.

  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include resolving conflicts, coping with moderate stress levels, along with the requirements to complete tasks within set time constraints and frequently changing priorities.

  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a MA degree in humanities or social sciences (preferably history, anthropology, or sociology);

  • Familiarity with, or ability to learn quickly, the ASU working environment and institutional arrangements, have some familiarity with the American university working environment;

  • Experience working in/with Muslim American communities;

  • Ability to work independently;

  • Evidence of effective communication skills;

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn basic skills for maintaining a website;

  • Adaptability to work and communicate with a diversity of stakeholders (faculty members, students, university staff, major donors, local community members, media personnel, etc.)

Essential Duties

  • Assist directors in identifying grant opportunities, help develop and write grant proposals, fulfill reporting and budgetary requirements for grants, and assist in coordinating grant implementation (e.g., organizing seminars, overseeing/coordinating research teams, etc.);

  • Work with communications specialists to create event announcements, promote CME activities, and keep the webpage up-to-date;

  • Develop and upkeep a resources database, including identifying scholars with common interests; identifying institutions, centers, and organizations with a shared mission; research and tracking work of local Muslim community organizations and the work they do;

  • Create and maintain a dynamic database of resources for ASU Muslim students;

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of resources on local Muslim communities and histories for journalists, teachers, students, and others interested in learning about Muslim Americans, particularly the Arizona communities;

  • Assist with annual reports for broad circulation;

  • Keep up communications with stakeholders (i.e., local community, ASU faculty and students, donors, and associated national organizations);

  • Oversee student research fellows;

  • Develop library liaison to build a collection on Arizona Muslims, in partnership with the Arizona Historical Society and local museums;

  • Work with SHPRS staff in budgetary reporting and submitting payment requests.

Salary Range

$45,000 - $50,000 per year; DOE
